     Luther A. Zimmerman was born on July 12, 1922 at McCune, Crawford Co., Kansas.4,5 He married Dorothy J. McGown on June 19, 1949 at McCune, Crawford Co., Kansas.5,2,4 Luther A. Zimmerman died on December 12, 2014 at Girard, Crawford Co., Kansas, at age 92.4,5 He Luther A. Zimmerman, 92, of rural McCune passed away at 2:55 a.m., Friday, December 12, 2014 in the Girard Medical Center, Girard, Kansas. Luther was born July 12, 1922 in rural McCune, Kansas a son of Samuel and Emma (Amos) Zimmerman. He grew up in the McCune area and attended McCune Schools, graduating from McCune High School. After graduation Luther entered the U.S. Army in December of 1944. Luther served his country in the European Theater and Pacific Theater during World War II and was awarded several accommodations. On June 19, 1949, Luther was united in marriage to Dorothy McGown in the United Chapel Church in rural McCune; she preceded him in death on March 17, 2008. Luther devoted his life to his family, farming and more especially to serving the Lord. Luther was a member of the United Chapel Church and served as church treasure, Sunday school teacher and served on the Church Board. Luther is survived by his son, Steve Zimmerman and his wife Ruth, of rural McCune; three daughters, Jeanne Dent and her husband Henry, of Carrollton, Georgia; Susan Cheney and her husband Nick, of Girard, Kansas; Betty Anne Hall and her husband Mike, of Springfield, Missouri; one brother, Samual Ray Zimmerman, of Clinton, Iowa; 13 Grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren. Funeral services for Luther A. Zimmerman will be Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard. Burial will follow in the McCune cemetery with Military honors conducted by Brown-Bishop Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 704. on December 13, 2014.4

McGown died on March 17, 2008 at McCune, Crawford Co., Kansas, at age 79.1,2,3 She McCUNE -- Dorothy J. Zimmerman, 79, a lifelong rural McCune resident, died at 8:45 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2008, at her home. She had been in failing health. She was born on Feb. 14, 1929, at rural McCune to John and Florence (Burch) McGown. She grew up on the family farm, attended country schools and graduated from McCune High School. She then attended Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg. She taught for several years at the Pleasant Valley and Green Elm country schools. She married Luther Zimmerman in 1949 at the United Chapel Church near McCune. He survives of the home. She was a homemaker and assisted her husband on their farm near McCune for many years. She was a member of the United Chapel Church at rural McCune, where she was a devoted Sunday school teacher, was involved with the youth and taught Bible school until her illness prohibited her from being active. She influenced and touched many lives through her Christisan witness. She had devoted her life to her family and church. Survivors include a son, Steve Zimmerman and his wife, Ruth, of rural McCune; three daughters, Jeanne Dent and her husband, Henry, of Carrollton, Ga., Susan Cheney and her husband, Nick, of Girard and Betty Anne Hall and her husband, Mike, of Springfield, Mo; 14 grandchildren, Amy and Stephan Pittman, Laura and Katie Dent, Nicholas and Lukas Cheney, Will, Drew, Jonathan, Mary and Sarah Zimmerman and Greg, Chris and Erin Hall; and five sisters, Betty Zimmerman of Clinton, Ia., Patty Mustard of Irving, Texas, Marietta Munding of Parsons, Helen McDonald of Mesa, Ariz., and Margaret McColm of Columbus. She was preceded in death by an infant sister. The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at United Chapel Church near McCune. Burial will be in McCune Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard. The casket will remain closed during the visitation. Memorials are suggested to the United Chapel Church and these may be left at or sent to the funeral home, 518 West St. John, P.O. Box 258, Girard, 66743.
