Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Larrison-Martin Funeral Home, 308 E. Marion St., Converse. David Wheeler will officiate and burial will be in Converse Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to Converse Ambulance Corp. on January 2, 1986.1

     Joseph Albert "Joe" Chaplin Joseph "Joe" A. Chaplin, 85, Marion, died at 1:36 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2017, at Century Villa in Greentown. He was born on March 3, 1932, in Wabash County to the late Loyal and Vera (Alber) Chaplin. He married Marguerite Brookshire, who preceded him in death in 1985. Joe then married his second wife, Doneta, and she preceded him in death in 2008. Joe was a U.S. Army veteran, and he worked at General Motors as a die setter for 30 years. He enjoyed gardening, tinkering in his garage, and watching westerns. He is survived by his children, Jodi Foust, Peru, Marissa Stoops, Converse, and Martin (Corinne) Chaplin, Jamestown, North Carolina; grandchildren, Ryan Haskett, Toby Stoops, Natalie Stoops, Joseph Haskett, Delia Chaplin, and Cailyn Chaplin; 11 great-grandchildren; and brothers, James, Harold and Gerald "Butch" Chaplin. In addition to his parents and two wives, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph, Loyal "Bud" Jr., John, and George Chaplin, and his sisters, Marie Peterson, Mildred Bolinger, and Patricia Music. The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Joe's service beginning at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. He was born in Roanoke on Oct. 3, 1958, son of James Nathan Gearheart (deceased) and Dot Underwood Overstreet (surviving). Also survived by his sister, Darlene Gearheart Wade, brother, Todd Alan Gearheart, niece, Torea Gearheart, extended family and close friends. Scott was handsome, kind hearted, fun loving, and funny. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, swimming, Smith Mountain Lake, watching sports and car racing with his friends and he loved dogs. He was a star player at every sport - baseball, basketball, football, swim team and a natural musician who really rocked the electric guitar. He will be greatly missed by his entire family and all his good friends. Rest in peace Scott, you will be in our hearts forever. His remains will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Devotion.
