Manning is a 20 year veteran of the United States Army having retired from the Headquarters of the US Army Armament Command at Rock Island Arsenal at the rank of Master Sergeant (E8). He served in numerous capacities in his career including 3 tours in Vietnam, having served 1 tour with the 1st BTLN 8th Inf. Reg. 4th Infantry Division at Dak To, 1 tour with USMACV USARPAC, and 1 tour with Co. A 1st BTLN 20th Infantry (AMERICAL). MSG. Manning also served as Drill Instructor and Sr. Drill Instructor at Fort Gordon, Fort Jackson, Fort Benning and assisted in the organization and development of the AIT School at Fort McClellan to which he also served as a Section Chief. During his career, Mr. Manning received numerous medals, recognitions and citations including the National Defense Service Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; Purple Heart; Bronze Star with Valor device, 3rd award; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm; Vietnam Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal, 5th Award; and the Army Commendation Medal. Mr. Manning is a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed being with his family, fishing, watching NASCAR and being outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends at Easy Living Yamaha in his retirement years. Mr. Manning was an accomplished pilot and an accomplished finish and trim carpenter who enjoyed building cabinets and wood working. Mr. Manning was a member of Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church.
