Born Sept. 5, 1923, at Bent Mountain, near Roanoke, Virginia, he was the fifth son of John Cole Johnson and Cammie (Hale) Johnson. Known there as Dean, he was the grandson of Will Hale & Viomy (Connor) Hale of Bent Mountain and Daniel & Nannie (Kingery) Johnson of Airpoint. While attending Bent Mountain School he won the Eastern U.S. marble championship and later was runner-up in the national marble contest. In 1941 he and his family moved to West Florence and then to West Manchester of Preble County, Ohio. John worked together with his brothers as a window washer. After some years he made Columbus his home and spent his remaining years there. Late in his life he attended Walnut Heights Baptist Church. Preceding him in death are brothers Darrell , Marshall, Charles, Frank, and a niece Peggy Johnson. Surviving family are brother Delmus and sister Mary Condon of West Manchester, brother Robert of Clarksville, Tennessee, and seventeen nieces and nephews. A soft-spoken, gentle man, kind and generous, he was loved by all who knew him, especially children. Graveside memorial services will be held at Twin Creek Chapel Cemetery, West Manchester. on August 11, 2001.3

Delmus Johnson Delmus Johnson, 90 of Eaton, OH, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning April 29, 2015. Born December 3, 1924 in Roanoke, VA, he was a son of the late John Cole & Cammie (Hale) Johnson. He served briefly during WW II with the US Army. Delmus retired in 1985 after 30 years with the Inland Division of General Motors from The Vandalia plant. Following retirement, he became an avid hunter and fisherman. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death on December 28, 2013 by wife of 62 years Mary F. (Powell) Johnson: 5 brothers and 1 sister. Survived by children Claudia A. Day of Hamilton, OH; Linda Stachler & husband Barney of Rossburg, OH: William C. Johnson & wife Rhonda of New Paris: and Michael D. Lindsey, her parents, Sam and Ruby Poff, her brother David MacArthur Poff and an infant sister Jean E. Poff. Left with loving memories are her sister, Betty Henderson and husband, Paul; sons, William T. Lindsey and Wally Lindsey and wife, Julie; daughters, Debbie Lindsey, Beverly Kast and son-in-law Barry, nine grandchildren Bobby Reifsnyder, Shahn Reifsnyder and wife Kayci-Samara, Ethan and Marissa Kast-Hannah, Abby, Kate and Nathan Lindsey, and one great grandson, Shahn Logan Reifsnyder. She loved and adored her nieces and nephews of the Sugar Run area and we are so grateful for the support and kindness of Mary Henderson, Robbie Robertson and Charles Henderson. A special thanks goes to Dr. McMahon and Dr. Olson and to the amazing nursing, dietary and housekeeping staff of Giles Community Hospital. The care and support by Good Samaritan Hospice made it possible for Ella to remain at home as long as possible. The family is truly grateful to Pastor Amy Bartee for her care, support and compassion. Additionally, we thank God for mom's dear friend of more than 35 years, Margie Journell of Pearisburg. The family is in the care of Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg. Visitation will be at 9:30 Saturday October 20th, at Thessalia Methodist Church, 100 Old Thessalia Rd. Pearisburg, with the service following at 11 o'clock am. The graveside service will be held at Thessalia Cemetery. The service will be conducted by Charles Henderson and Pastor Amy Bartee who will officiate. on October 19, 2012.2
