Michael Dean Peters Michael Dean Peters, 54, of Vinton, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2006. He was born September 8, 1951 the son of the late Shirlie L. Peters. His brother, Lance Corporal Tony Peters preceded him in death. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War. Surviving are his wife, Peggy Peters of Vinton; two sons, Stacey Peters and wife, Aleshia of Vinton, Michael D. Peters and fiancee, Lalenya Braford of Roanoke; stepchildren, Sherry Nunley and husband, Rodney of Goodview, Carl Patsell of Vinton, Tammy Terry and husband, Ricky of Vinton; mother, Goldie B. Thomas; and stepfather, William Thomas of Moneta; four grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Rodney Peters and wife, Teresa of Stewartsville, Steven Peters and wife, Vergie of Roanoke; two sisters, Susan Napier and husband, William of Vinton, Lisa Sullivan of Salem; two nephews and two nieces. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Military Funeral Honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. His devotion to his family as well as his deep faith in Jesus Christ allowed him to find peace and joy in the midst of his struggle against cancer. Fred was born to Howard and Virginia Emmons, who were both educators, in Roanoke, Va. on September 3, 1949. He graduated from Roanoke College and began his lifelong calling as an educator teaching Civics and World History in Keokee, Va. He selflessly served Page County teaching Spanish at both the high school and community college for over three decades, and has touched the lives of so many within our community. He faithfully attended Stanley United Methodist Church, and loved singing in the choir. Fred was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend, Deborah Ann Jackson, on November 28, 1981 in Roanoke, Va. Together they proudly raised their two daughters, Emily and Edie. Fred invested deeply in his wife and children, putting family as the most important aspect of his life. He loved taking his family on vacation adventures – never going to the same place twice. Fred was an educator at heart. He loved the arts, and was an accomplished painter. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate his life and the fact that he is now at peace with his creator. Fred is survived by his wife, Debbie; his daughters, Emily and Edie; his grandchildren, Rebekah and Elizabeth; his siblings Annette, Tony, and Timothy; and many nieces and nephews. on August 31, 2016.5
