Since retiring, he had been an active member of the Va. Tech. Hokie Club. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 25, in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, conducted by the Rev. Jack Minnick. A memorial service will be held at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Ellett at 10:30 a.m. on July 28. The family will receive friends at the home, 4347 Preston Forest Drive. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, Progress Street, Blacksburg, Va. 24060. The remains are at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg, where friends may also call. on March 24, 1991.8

Hubert Hobbs at Richardson-Horne Funeral Chapel, Christiansburg, Va. at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 1993, with interment to follow in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg. She served in the women's division of the U.S. Navy during World War II as a pharmacist's assistant. Born in Bluefield, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert E. and Dora Lester McAlexander. She is survived by a son, Robert F. Shay, Newark; a daughter, Leslie A. Shay, Wilmington, Del; and a sister, Nell Gray Kerr, Minneapolis. on August 31, 1991.3

Frymyer and Phyllis R. Wright, both of Lancaster. Services and burial will be private. on November 1, 1983.6

Robert was a member of the local VFW, Sons of the Confederacy, and Ellett Valley Ruritan Club. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church for many years where he served as a lay speaker and held many different offices. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Virginia Lester Wiatt; his son and daughter-in-law, William Edward and Sherry Lynn Wiatt; a grandson, Josiah Thomas Wiatt; a granddaughter, Jessica Nicole Pringle, all of Blacksburg; one daughter, Shirley Marie Shumate of Floyd; sisters, Louise Loughridge, Mary Todd and husband, J.M. Lankes; brothers, John Wiatt and wife, Frances, William H. Wiatt and wife, Mary, and Alexander T. Wiatt; a sister-in-law, Connie Wiatt; and numerous dear nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, August 17, 2002, at 2 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stan Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in care of Diane Matthews, 600 Gold Leaf Drive, Christiansburg, Va. 24073. Friends may call on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg. on August 17, 2002.6

     Mavis Rebecca Edwards was buried at Sunset Cemetery, North Franklin Street, Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., Virginia.4,3 She was born on December 25, 1906 at North Carolina.4,3 As of circa 1928,her married name was Lester.1,5 She married Champ Edley Lester, son of Gordon Lester and Mary Charity Gray, circa 1928.1,5,3 Mavis Rebecca Edwards died on December 15, 1999 at Radford, Virginia, at age 92.2,4,3 She LESTER, Mavis Rebecca Edwards, formerly of 109 Arnold Avenue, Radford, died Wednesday, December 15, 1999 at Wheatland Hills Retirement Home in Radford. The daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Charles E. Edwards, Mavis was born on December 25, 1906 in Windsor, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Champ E. Lester, who died January 18, 1944 and her brothers, Clyde Edwards, Paul Edwards, Bruce Edwards and Charles Edwards. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Robert J. Main of Waynesboro, Patricia L. and Frank Marshall, III of Martinsville; a brother, Hugh Edwards of Christiansburg; grandchildren, George L. Main, wife Susan and son, Jared, David B. Main, wife Jacqueline, and sons, Elijah and Andy, Rebecca M. St.Clair, husband Henry, and daughter, Alexandria, Frank Marshall,IV, wife Jackie, and sons Joshua and Ryan. Mr. Lester attended Averett and Longwood Colleges and graduated from Radford University. She taught in Montgomery County County Schools and for twenty-two years taught second grade at McHarg School in Radford. She will be greatly missed by family and friends, laughter and love were her trademarks. A graveside service will be conducted at noon on Saturday at the family plot at Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. at Presbyterian Church of Radford, 4th and Randolph Streets. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at DeVilbiss Funeral Home and at the church following the memorial service. on December 17, 1999.3
