"Jack" Boyd, 86, of Sandyville passed away April 18, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington with his family by his side. Born to Charles Donald Boyd and Grace Evelyn Paxton Boyd on September 15, 1925, in Dickerson, he was the sixth of 11 children raised in Quincy, nicknamed "Jack" by his older sister after the famed prize fighter, Jack Dempsey. Jack attended DuPont High School until drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943 to serve in the European Theatre Operation of World War II. He was assigned to the 289th Infantry Regiment, 75th Infantry Division, who fought in the Battle of the Bulge. For his bravery and service to our country, he earned the Silver Star; Bronze Star; two Purple Hearts with one cluster; Good Conduct Medal; WWII Victory Ribbon; ETO Ribbon with two stars; American Theater Ribbon; Combat Infantry Badge; and Jubilee of Liberty Medal from the French government. Jack retired from Kaiser Aluminum after 31 years of service. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union 5668; VFW Post 3488 of Sandyville; and American Legion Post 107 of Ripley. Jack enjoyed traveling and fishing, and spending time with all of his grandchildren. Jack is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia "Ginny" Boyd of Sandyville. They were married November 1, 1947, in Witcher Creek. Service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood with Chaplain Paul Palmer officiating. Burial will follow in Independence Cemetery, Sandyville, with full graveside military rites provided by Sandyville VFW Post 3488. on April 20, 2012.4

     Lillian Marie Boyd Lillian M. Cutright, 84, of Cowen was born September 10, 1927, in Quincy to the late Donald and Grace Boyd. She passed away on November 22, 2011, after a brief illness. She was a 1946 graduate of Dupont High School. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Cowen, where she taught Sunday school. Lillian enjoyed life and spending time with her family. Those who love her will always have fond memories of her sense of humor and her laughter. Her husband, Oscar L. Cutright; and siblings, Mable, Wilfred, Leonard, Robert and Juanita, preceded her in death.      Norma Ellen Cundiff was buried at La Plata United Methodist Church Cemetery, Dentsville, Charles Co., Maryland.2 Her married name was Wilbourne.1 She married Joseph Cary Wilbourne Sr.1,2,4 Norma Ellen Cundiff was born on December 18, 1931 at Roanoke, Virginia.5,2 She died on May 9, 2012 at Maryland at age 80.5,2 She Norma Cundiff Wilbourne, 80, of Bryans Road, Md., passed away on May 8, 2012. Mrs. Wilbourne was born December 18, 1931, in Roanoke to Grady and Helen Link Cundiff. She was a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School in Salem, where she was a drum major for the traveling bugle corps. It was there she met her future husband and baritone, Joseph, while attending music lessons. Norma earned a Bachelor's degree in Music from Radford College. She further earned her Master's degree in Education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. She moved from her childhood home in Salem to Charles County, Md. with her new husband in 1958. Over the years, Norma was employed as a music educator in both Charles and Prince George's Counties, Md., but her primary vocation was as Music Director at La Plata United Methodist Church in La Plata, Md. from 1969 to 1996. Norma Wilbourne is survived by her husband, Joseph Wilbourne Sr; her sister, Iris Jo Harley, of Columbia, S.C; her three children, Julia Davis, of Charlotte Hall, Md., Joseph (Jay) Wilbourne Jr., of Relay, Md., and Jonathan Wilbourne, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C; and her two grandchildren, Hannah and David. Visitation will be Monday, May 14, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at La Plata United Methodist Church, 3 Port Tobacco Road, La Plata, MD 20646, with Rev. Bruce Jones officiating.      Joseph Cary Wilbourne Sr. was buried at La Plata United Methodist Church Cemetery, Dentsville, Charles Co., Maryland.3 He married Norma Ellen Cundiff, daughter of Grady Wilmot Cundiff and Helen Catherine Link.1,2,3 Joseph Cary Wilbourne Sr. was born on July 13, 1931 at Roanoke, Virginia.3 He died on May 14, 2014 at Maryland at age 82.3 He Joseph Carey Wilbourne of Bryans Road, MD, passed away on May 14, 2014. He was 82 years old. Joe was born July 13, 1931 in Roanoke, VA to Martin Thomas and Esther C. Hall Wilbourne. He was a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School in Salem, VA where he played football and enjoyed singing baritone in school and community events. It was there that he met his future wife Norma E. Cundiff, who was the drum major and his accompanist at vocal performances. He is survived by his three children, Julia W. Davis of Charlotte Hall, MD, Joseph (Jay) Wilbourne, Jr. of Relay, MD, and Jonathan (Jon) Wilbourne of Mt. Plesant, SC; his sister, Mary Louise Terry of FL; and his two grandchildren, Hannah E. Davis and David G. Wilbourne. Joe attended Roanoke College after high school but then entered into the U.S. Army in July 1953 and served until June 1956. His most pleasant memories were his time spent in Europe where he was stationed in Germany. His primary duty there was working as a communication’s analyst. Upon his return to the States, Joe married Norma and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1961. He and Norma then moved from their childhood home of Southwest VA to Charles County, MD. Joe and Norma lived in Bryans Road, MD for 50 years. He worked at the Naval Ordinance Station in Indian Head, MD for 34 years as an engineer in the Safety Department. Over the years, Joe was involved in his community as a Boy Scout leader and Little League manager. He remained active in his love of music and sang in the Chancel Choir of the La Plata United Methodist Church for many years. Joe also worked to begin the church’s hand bell choir and served as its first director. Friends received on Friday, May 23, 2014 from 5-8 PM at the Raymond Funeral Service Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Funeral Service on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 10 AM at the La Plata United Methodist Church. Interment to follow at the La Plata United Methodist Church Cemetery in Dentsville, MD. Memorials to Friendship Landing for the Arts or the La Plata United Methodist Church Chancel Choir. on May 21, 2014.3
