Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at Matics Funeral Home, Clendenin with the Rev. Wendell Eskew officiating. Burial will be in Mary Osborne Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Order of the Eastern Star service at 7 p.m. on September 22, 2002.5

Dodd and wife, Rebecca, of Petersburg; one daughter, Leann (Dodd) Garten and husband, Alton, of Charleston; one sister, Gwendolyn Plumley of Beaver; four grandchildren, Roger A. Dodd of Petersburg, Susan (Dodd) Secrist and husband, Dale, of Medley, Jeffrey Garten and wife, LuAnn, of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Craig Garten and wife, Kim, of Herndon, Va; 11 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Hafer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. on March 29, 2013.1

Her first husband, Hobert Johnson, her second husband, Holly Miller; a grandson, Christopher Cummings; brothers, Orville and Owen, and sisters, Macil and Sylvia also preceded her in death. She was a former cook for Walton Elementary School, a former Avon representative with 25 years service, and was a foster grandmother at Cottageville Elementary and Ripley Elementary Schools. She was a member of the Evergreen Hills Freewill Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling. Survivors include her sons, Scottie and his wife Sharon Johnson of Walton, and Gregory Johnson of Fresno, CA; daughters and their husbands, Carolyn Sue and Elton White of Cottageville, Phyllis and Kenton Summers of Beckley, and Annette and Mike Cummings of Lincolnton, NC; brother, Gillie Dodd of Petersburg; sister, Genevieve "Jenny" Plumley of Grandview; stepchildren, Charlotte Keefer of Leon, Sharon McClellan of Mt. Alto, Mark Miller and Gary Miller, both of Cottageville; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2012, at the Evergreen Hills Freewill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark Price officiating. Graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Moriah Cemetery, on Ambler Ridge, Walton. Visitation was from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV. on May 10, 2012.3

Moriah Church at RFD 1, Walton, by Rev. Ray R. Jones and Rev. Cue Young. Burial will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Mr. Johnson died Tuesday at Charleston General Hospital after a short illness. He was a welder for the M and R Pipeline Corp. Mrs. Plumley was a retired employee of Western Union in Charleston with more than 35 years of service. She attended the First Southern Baptist Church at Grandview, was a member of Senior Friends, Well I'll Be, and Raleigh County Commission on Aging. Mrs. Plumley enjoyed attending church, going to farmer's markets, and being with friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Plumley; and was preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters. Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her son, James D. Plumley and his wife, Teresa of Grandview. A special niece, Phyllis Summers and her husband, Kenton of Mount Hope; a life long family friend, Connie Burton and husband, Ray of Lake Norman, N.C; dear friends, Jenny and Neal Truman of Charleston; and many other nieces, nephews, and treasured friends. Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Mon. April 11, at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with Pastor John Rinehart officiating. Burial will follow at the Plumley Cemetery at Plumley Mountain. on April 10, 2016.4

He was born near Walton, Roane County, West Virginia, on August 13, 1911, son of the late Charles Irvin and Allie Mae Daugherty Dodd. He was a life member of the West Virginia Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, and Central District Funeral Directors Association, having served in all offices of his District, all offices of WVFDA, and serving as Governor of District III of the National Funeral Directors Association from 1979 to 1982. He was President of WVFDA in 1955, and continued to serve on the Board of Directors for many years. His wisdom and knowledge was invaluable to WVFDA. He graduated from high school at Elkview, W.Va; attended New River State College (now WV Tech) and West Virginia University; and graduated from the Columbus Mortuary Science College, Columbus, Ohio, in 1929. He became a licensed funeral director and embalmer in 1932, and was associated with his father in funeral homes in Walton, Elkview, and Fayetteville, W.Va. Charley, as his friends called him, then established his own funeral home in Webster Springs where he practiced since March 27, 1933. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Medical Administrative Corps from 1942 to 1945, entering as a Private and leaving with the rank of Captain. He was Past President of the Webster Springs Lions Club, Past Master of Addison Lodge 116 AF&AM, a member of the Royal Arch Masons, a member of the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple in Charleston, W.Va., a member of IOOF and K of P. He served two terms as Councilman and two terms as Mayor of Webster Springs, served on the Board of Directors of finance company, insurance company, industrial corporations and banks. He was married to the late Ruby Neil Tracy of Webster Springs, and is survived by three children, Dr. Larry A. Dodd and wife Sandy of St. Clairsville, Ohio, Linda C. Dodd Sanders Hanchett and husband David of Clifton, Va., and LeAnn E. Litton and husband Selby of Huntington, W.Va; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2007, at Dodd and Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with Rev. Nelson Harris and Rev. Ted Dodd officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville, W.Va., with Masonic Graveside Rites by Addison Lodge 116 AF&AM and Military Honors by Addison McLaughlin VFW Post 3738 of Webster Springs, W.Va. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Clinebell in 1981; sister, Velma Payne; and brothers, Chauncey Dodd and Charles E. Dodd. Left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Barbara Murdock and husband, Jim, and Kay Ball, all of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Kevin Ball and wife, Jennifer of Coshocton, Ohio, Kristopher Ball of Fayetteville, Jodi Frantz and husband, Tim of Fayetteville, and Matthew Jarvis of Fayetteville; great-grandchildren, Kody Ball, Zachary Ball, Logan Frantz, and Cloey Frantz; great-step-grandchildren, James A. Murdock, IV and Daniel Mealer; sister, Grace “Pug” Geary of Hampton, Va; step-great-grandchildren, James and Jennifer Murdock, and Kevin and Cassandra Mealer, all of Virginia Beach; and special caregiver, Nellie Moore. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Rev. Robert Morey and Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. She later was employed as secretary for Glenwood Elementary School in Charleston, W.Va. She was also the secretary for the youth minister at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas. She was a member of Menchville Baptist Church in Newport News, Va. She is survived by three grateful sons, John Michael Geary, his wife, Deborah, Patrick Steven Geary, his wife, Anett, Mark Webster Geary, his wife, Cathy; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The body will be removed to the home from the Broyles Funeral Home Wednesday at 4:30 o'clock. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o'clock Thursday from the home with Rev. J. D. Arbuckle officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Sink's Grove. on May 16, 1951.5

W. Russell Ward and Rev. J. D. Arbuckle in charge. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. She died Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a local hospital following a long illness. Born Nov. 24, 1880, at Paint Bank, Va., she was a daughter of the late Fletcher and Nancy Jarvis. She was a member of the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Floyd Nickell, Beckley, and Mrs. E. Scott Carter, Mount Hope; two sons, Armon, Baltimore, Md., and Bowman Doss, Sinks Grove and Columbus, Ohio. Her Husband, Charles Hubert Doss and a daughter, Eleanor, preceded her in death. The body is at the Broyles Funeral Home in Union. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Friday. The body will remain at the funeral home until one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be E. M. Burton, Bob Scott, Frank Johnson, Marian Shiflett, Henry and Heber Connell, Port Nickell and Roy Burwell. on May 21, 1970.6

Hope Presbyterian Church, the Fayette Branch of the A.A.U.W. and county, state and national Retired Teacher Associations. She was a charter member of Omega Chapter, Alpha Phi State and Delta Kappa Gamma International Teachers Society, the Mt. Junior Woman's Club and the Mount Hope Federated League. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Eugene Scott Carter; two sisters, Eleanor Doss and Ruth Nickell; two brothers, Bowman Doss and Armon Doss. Survivors include two sons, Charles Hammett Carter and Richard D. Carter (wife Louise); daughter, Fran Carter Birdsong (husband Jerry); four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
