     William West "Bill" Burnett was buried at Burnett Cemetery, Rt. 623 one mile east of Rt. 605, Ingramville, Franklin Co., Virginia.2 He was born on January 10, 1929 at Franklin Co., Virginia.7,8,2,4 He married Virginia Irene Hatcher circa 1950.1,2 William West "Bill" Burnett died on August 23, 2011 at Ferrum, Franklin Co., Virginia, at age 82.8,2 He William W. (Bill) Burnett, 82, of Ferrum, died on Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at his home. He was born on January 10, 1929, to the late Stanton Luther and Cova Ross Burnett. He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Larry M. Prillaman; two brothers, Charlie and Bob Burnett ; and a sister, Ileta Burnett Nolen. Mr. Burnett retired as President and CEO of The First National Bank of Ferrum after 43 years of service and he served on the Board of Directors for the Bank, Ferrum Lions Club, Ferrum Volunteer Fire Department and Ferrum Water and Sewage Plant for many years. He was well known in the county and was a gentle spirited man who was respected and admired by all who knew him, a man who loved his family, and always put others needs before his own. He cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and treated them as if they were his own. He is survived by his faithful and loving wife of 61 years, Irene Hatcher Burnett; two daughters, Joan B. Prillaman and Ellen Mae Burnett, both of Ferrum; three grandchildren, Jennifer Talley (Greg), Marshall Prillaman (Trina), and Chris Prillaman (Shawn); six great-grandchildren, Anna, Tanner, Jordan, Ashley, Bridget and Laken; brother, Paul Burnette (Deniece); sister, Alice Gourley (Frank); sister-in-law, Eva Hatcher Burnett ; and numerous other family members and friends. A special thank you to his caregivers, Vanassa Ziglar, Susan Cooper and Carilion Hospice of Franklin County. He also leaves behind a very special friend, Teresa Cannaday, who has been a part of his family for 25 years. Funeral Services will be conducted from Conner- Bowman Funeral Chapel at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2011, with Elder Larry Hollandsworth, Pastor Rick Poland and the Rev. Maynard Plaster officiating. Interment will follow in the Burnett Family Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Ferrum Rescue Squad or Carilion Hospice of Franklin County. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 24, 2011, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Conner- Bowman Funeral Home, Route 220 at Wirtz Road, Rocky Mount, 540-334-5151. on August 25, 2011.2

Mr. Burnett was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force with four years of service, was former owner of 40 West Food Fare, of the Baptist faith and was a devoted follower of the Rev. Billy Graham. He was preceded in death by his parents, S. Luther and Cova Ross Burnett and a brother, Charlie Burnett. Surviving are sisters, Ileta B. Nolen of Ferrum and Alice B. Richardson of Henry; brothers and sisters-in-law, J. Paul and Deniece Burnett of Rocky Mount, William "Bill" and Irene Hatcher Burnett of Ferrum and Eva Hatcher Burnett of Altavista; nieces and nephews, Richard Burnett, Diane B. Trisler, Steve L. Nolen, Wes Burnett, Joan B. Wimmer, Ellen Burnett, Logan Richardson and Suzanne Richardson; a number of great-nieces and nephews; long time friend and caregiver, David W. Knapp; short time caregivers, Barbara Boyd and Vanessa Ziegler; the staff of Carilion Hospice of Franklin County and his loyal, faithful and constant companion for six years, his little dog Jackie. Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of Lynch Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2004, with the Rev. Bob Andrew officiating. Interment will follow in the Burnett Family Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times at the home of Bill Burnett, 105 Stanley St., Ferrum. Mrs. West is survived by her daughter, Lisa A. West and husband George Collins of Martinsville; two sons, Michael F. West and wife Bonnie of Lynchburg and Walter G. (Jerry) West and wife Kirsten of Columbia, MD; two sisters, Edna LaCorte of Old Bridge, NJ and Irma Purvis of Alexandria; five grandchildren, Christopher West, Alison Sosebee, Candice Wade, Nathan West and Natalie West; three great-grandchildren, Riley Sosebee, Alden Wade and Trentin Wade. A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Collinsville with the Rev. Larry Cheek officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service at the church. Burial will be private.
