She was an accomplished pianist and vocalist and taught music in the public school system in Roanoke for thirty-five years. In 1979 she moved from Roanoke to Lost River, West Virginia, where she resided at The Guest House with her son, Bob. She was a former member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke. She predeceased her husband, Wayne W. Dillard, her mother and father, and her brother, John M. Stephens, Jr., all of Roanoke. She is survived by her sons, Robert B. Dillard of Lost River and Duane B. Dillard of Hagerstown, Maryland; her sisters, Rosalie S. (Featie) Lucas of Hollins, Virginia, Harriette S. Rothenberger of Salem, Virginia, Louise S. Cropp of Charlottesville, Virginia, her brother, Winston M. Stephens of Sunset Beach, North Carolina, and dear friends, Tammy Stanley and David Mickow of Lost River as well as many devoted nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Know as "Mother", "Dot" and "Sister", she will be remembered for her generosity of love, time and spirit as well as her talent as a musician and craftsperson. on August 18, 1999.4

Born on May 2, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Rosalie Snead Stephens and John Marvin Stephens. She was reared in Montvale, Va., but spent many of her formative years in Fork Union, Va. Her maternal grandfather, William Frank Snead, was a founder of Fork Union Military Academy. She met her husband, Wilson Warner Cropp, while he was a cadet at The Academy, and they married in 1940. They reared their family of four children in Charlottesville. She was a devoted wife and mother, a sports enthusiast, an accomplished golfer, a tournament and duplicate bridge player, an accomplished hostess and cook, an avid gardener, as well as a community activist. She was a member of the Board of Education of Rock Hill Academy. She was a member of the Jack Jouett Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as Regent. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Charlottesville for over 60 years. Her husband of 54 years predeceased her in 1994. Her family will greatly miss her guidance, wisdom, love, and energetic example. She is survived by her daughters, Martha Cropp Gibbs and husband, John Willard Gibbs Jr., of Richmond, Kaye Cropp Gaffney and husband, Maurice Leonard Gaffney, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Bonnie Cropp Stokes and husband, Ronald Lee Stokes of Chattanooga, Tenn; and her son, Wilson Warner Cropp II and wife, Deana Anderson Cropp, of Charlottesville and Cape Charles. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Her brother, Winston H. Stephens of High Point, N.C. and her sister, Harriette S. Rothenberger of Salem, Va. survive. Her brother, John M. Stephens and her sisters, Dorothy S. Dillard and Rosalie S. Lucas, predeceased her. The family wishes to thank Monica Nguku and Maisie Madan for their love, devotion, and tireless care for their mother. The family also wishes to express their deep appreciation for the compassionate attention of Bon Secours Hospice. Interment at Riverview Cemetery, 1701 Chesapeake St., Charlottesville, Va. on June 27, 2007.2

Allen/Allan Blair BLAIR, ALLEN - Amherst, Oct. 15, 1832. Born, July 8, 1754, in Amherst. In 1780 was drafted three months under Capt. Younger Landrum and marched to join Gen. Gates in North Carolina, but before his time was out employed William Bowman, as substitute. In 1781 he again marched under Landrum, this time to join Gen. Greene. He was not in battle of Guilford, but so near that he saw dead and wounded men removed from the field. He saw Gen. Edward Stevens badly wounded in the thigh. Shortly after was again drafted, and under Capt. John Loving marched to Williamsburg, where he took sick of fever and was in hospital a considerable time. Friends will be received at the Borkoski Funeral Home, Tiltonsville, 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Final arrangements are incomplete. on August 11, 1982.2
