Irene was born in Salem September 5, 1927 and lived in the area all of her life. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Emmer Pruit King. Irene retired from the Brian Center and was a true homemaker; enjoying canning, vegetable gardening, sewing, quilting, cooking, and reading. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lee Roy Bibbs; son Lee Roy Bibbs, Jr., and six brothers and sisters. Irene is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Tom and Judy Bibbs of Roanoke; daughters and son-in-law Gloria and Sam Adkins and Shirley Bibbs all of Roanoke; daughter-in-law, Sharon Bibbs; grandchildren: Ashlee Zahner, Russon Bibbs, Lance Bibbs, Hannah Bibbs, Dawn Parris, and James Cooley; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers: Sanford King, George King, Oscar King, Jr. all of Salem, and Roger King of Pocahontas, West Virginia; sisters Jane Hale and Liddie Hale both of Salem, and Linda King of Christiansburg; and many nieces and nephews. The family offers a very special thanks to all of Irene’s neighbors for being there for her. Kenis' life represented the words, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." On this day he was reunited with his beloved wife of 60 years, whom he cherished and had missed. He was the father of David Palmer and wife, Becky; daughter, Brenda Maciel and husband, Tino; and son, Bruce Palmer and wife, Susan, all of Roanoke. He leaves behind an inheritance found through his grandchildren, Philip Palmer and wife, Ashley, Crystal Ingle and husband, Jared, April Mallick and husband, Kaushik, Jacob Palmer and wife, Jenny, Jessica Palmer and friend, Will Blaylock, Kenis Maciel and wife, Jennifer, Andrew Palmer and wife, Candice, Victor Maciel, Bruce T. Palmer and fiancée, Jordan, Lindsey Palmer and fiancé, Jeremiah, Casey Palmer, and Bailey Palmer. His blessing will continue through his great-grandchildren, Cassidy Caldwell, Mateo Ingle, Rylan Palmer, Cruz Ingle, Max Palmer, Mason Palmer, Jax Palmer, and Brayden Maciel. Surviving are his brothers, William Palmer and wife, Edna, Maynard Palmer, Carl Palmer and wife, Phyllis, Russell Palmer and wife, Rhonda; and sister, Della Mae Wheeler. He is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Ora Palmer; brother, David Palmer; and sisters, Thelma Mountcastle and Helen Ferguson. Kenis had served in the United States Army during World War II. He had worked for Red Line Trucking, Mason Dixon Trucking and Standard Trucking until his retirement. He was a founding member of Life Tabernacle Church and held the position of Trustee on the church board for 53 years. To his grandchildren he was known as pawpaw, to his trucking friends as "Mike" and to his church family as Brother Palmer. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park with Military Honors by the U.S. Army. on November 25, 2012.2

She was the widow of Jessie T. Hall. Surviving are her children, Franklin Hall and Ruth, Willard Hall, Bobby Hall and Margaret, Mary Boitnott and John, Geromaine Hall, all of Roanoke; sisters, Ernie Gregory and Jessie Cox, both of Roanoke. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 1998, at Antioch Church Cemetery, Franklin County, with Charles Austin officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Funeral Home, Roanoke.
