Collins, 81, husband of Rachel S. Collins of 7839 N.C. Hwy 89 West, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, at the Stokes Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Danbury. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at the Francisco Presbyterian Church by Dr. Charles Howell, the Rev. Jesse Bledsoe, and the Rev. Ricky Rogers. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Collins was born in Stokes County Oct. 27, 1917, to Roy E. and Clytie Mills Collins. Mr. Collins was a life long resident of Stokes County. He graduated from Francisco High School. He received a B.S. Degree and a M.A. Degree in School Administration from Appalachian State Teachers College, now Appalachian University. Mr. Collins began his teaching career at Francisco School. He served as a teacher and principal for 33 years. Mr. Collins was elected to the Stokes County Board of Education, where he served for 17 years, 6 years were as chairman of the board. He served as past president of the N.C.A.E. For two terms he was past president of the Stokes County Principals Organization. Mr. Collins served his community as a leader in the Boy Scouts, receiving a 24 year service award. He received a 10 year service award from the Stokes County United Fund. He was an original member of the board of directors of the Francisco Volunteer Fire Department and was a member and served on the original board of directors of the Francisco Ruritan Club. Mr. Collins was a member of the Francisco Presbyterian Church and served as elder, clerk of session, supply minister, and Sunday school teacher. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Rachel S. Collins of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Paul Davis of Richmond, Va., one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Linda Collins of Greensboro; four grandchildren, Beamon Davis, Caroline Davis, Suzanne Collins, Mary Ann Collins; two sisters, Ruth Jefferson and Mildred Garnett, both of Westfield; one brother, R.M. Collins of Pilot Mountain. Mr. Collins was preceded in death by two brothers, Moir Collins and Glenn Collins. Mr. Collins is at the Cox-Needham Funeral Home and Chapel in Pilot Mountain and will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral services. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998, at the Cox-Needham Chapel and at other times, at the Collins Home Highway 89 West, Francisco, NC. Memorials may be made in floral tribute or to the Lloyd E. Collins Scholarship Fund, c/o Stokes County School System, P.O. Box 50, Danbury, NC 27016. on December 10, 1998.9

She was a graduate of Womens College in Greensboro, member of Francisco Presbyterian Church and a teacher for 39 years at Francisco Elementary and Shoals Elementary Schools. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Paul Davis of Richmond,Va; and one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Linda Collins of Greensboro. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Beamon Davis,Caroline Davis, Suzanne Collins Simmons and husband, Keith, Mary Ann Collins; and two sisters, Olivia Morrow Shaw of Pinnacle and Annie Blanche Boles of Walnut-Cove. Mrs. Collins is at Cox-Needham Funeral Home and will be taken to the church on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. where she will remain until the hour of the service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Francisco Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made in floral tribute or to the Lloyd E.
