In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Michael Dixon. He was a 1963 graduate of Paul Blazer High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Eastern Kentucky University in 1968 and his master's of arts in Teaching from the Citadel in December 1998. Mr. Dixon retired from Berkeley County School district in June 2006, but remained active in teaching as a substitute teacher at Wando High School in Charleston. He was also a volunteer at the Berkeley County Library. Tom is survived by his wife, Rita; son P. J; daughter Carie; brother David Deeds; sister Julia Sue Teater; and three rescue cats. on August 9, 2016.⁵
