Michael William Poff was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Virginia.2 He was born on August 1, 1983 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.1,2,3 He died on June 13, 2009 at Bedford Co., Virginia, at age 25.2,4 He Florida man dies in crash in Bedford Co. Virginia State Police are investigating a Bedford County crash that killed a Florida man Saturday morning after he was chased by police. Vinton police received a call early Saturday about a person who was driving erratically on Hardy Road, said state police spokesman Sgt. Rob Carpentieri. An officer saw the Chevrolet Tahoe and tried to stop it, Carpentieri said. The Tahoe speed away, and as it crossed the Bedford County line, the Vinton officer called off the chase -- but continued to follow the SUV. The officer saw the Tahoe crashed at the intersection of Virginia 634 and Virginia 619. The wreck occurred about 2:45 a.m. Michael William Poff, 25, of Goodland, Fla., died at the scene, according to police. He was not wearing a seat belt, police said. The initial investigation found that Poff hit an embankment while trying to make a turn, and the SUV overturned, Carpentieri said. on June 14, 2009.5 He Michael William Poff was known for being a fast driver. He'd run into authorities before, and according to online court documents he pleaded guilty to reckless driving in 2003. But after his death, his mother said she would remember him as a meticulous, self-educated person who recently opened Poff Home Improvements. "He was always learning how to do something new," Lisa Renee Poff said. The 25-year-old died after he sped away Saturday from a Vinton police cruiser during a traffic stop and crashed his Chevrolet Tahoe at the intersection of Hardy Road and Turner Branch Broad in Bedford County, the Virginia State Police said. State police said Poff had been reported as driving erratically. Poff lived with his mother and his two brothers in the house where he grew up in Chamblissburg, and he graduated in 2001 from Staunton River High School. He spent three months in Florida earlier this year, his mother said, and police identified him as a resident of that state because he had a Florida license. Poff's girlfriend, Carla Weaver, was in the car and was not seriously injured in the crash. His mother said "everyone knew he liked to drive fast" and affectionately called him her "wild child." He was also known for being a loving father to his 6-year-old daughter Kaylin, who lives with her mother; and for being a perfectionist at landscaping and home improvements. The incident remains under investigation. on June 15, 2009.5 He Michael William Poff, 25, of Chamblissburg, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2009, as a result of an automobile accident. He was born August 1, 1983. He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Early Denton Reed, grandfathers, Charles William (Bill) Hinegar, of Roanoke and Harry Lee Poff, of Pilot, and his uncle, William Lee Poff, of Flagstaff, Arizona. Survivors include his father, Michael Ray Poff, of New Castle and his mother, Lisa Renee Poff, of Chamblissburg. Also surviving are his daughter, Kaylin Michaela Poff, 6, of Moneta; brothers, Travis Lee Poff and Eric Landon Poff, also of Chamblissburg; grandmothers, Elsie Faye Hinegar, of Goodview and Treva Estelle Poff, of Vinton: uncles and aunts, Phillip and Trena Mundy, of Goodview and their children, Cody and Chelsea, Wayne and Terri Poff, of Willis and their children, Josiah and Brandie. Other survivors include his girlfriend, Carla Weaver; many friends, including a lifelong friend, Casey Saul. He also left behind his beloved pet, "Jackson". Michael was a 2001 graduate of Staunton River High School. He was employed by Professional Painting and Design and had also recently started his own business, Poff Home Improvements. Michael took much pride in his work, was detail oriented and wouldn't settle for anything short of perfect at the end of his working day. He wasn't afraid to take on any endeavor. He was a self-starter, was highly motivated and acquired most of his clientele, simply by word-of-mouth. Michael had a zest for life, with a passion for learning new things. With his wide smile, his sense of humor, and his down-to-earth personality, Our Michael will be sadly missed by family, as well as by his friends, who knew him best. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's Vinton Chapel on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Donnie Glass and Senior Pastor Edward T. Creel officiating.
