Coger said the youth locked himself in his room at 7690 Laurel Ave. after a heated family discussion about the discovery of cigarettes in his room. Minutes later, Coger said, the youth shot himself. An upstairs neighbor, Leland L. Schwartz of 7539 Laurel Ave., was the first to break into the youth's room, Coger said, and administered first aid until the ambulance arrived. John served his country by serving in the United States Navy as an Aviation Structural Mechanic. Over his life he has had extensive experience working as a mechanic, welder, painter, and in hydraulic systems repair. Background includes repairing and maintaining cars, trucks, buses, golf carts, boats, motors, and 18-wheeler trucks. Dependable and efficient with a desire to complete all task accurately and in a timely manner. John was a Christian and did ministry with Ignited Church. He is preceded in death by his wife: Mildred L. Gooch; and his son: Larry Ray Gooch.
