Marie Ann Plaisance Marie P. Rogers, age 78, of Lockport, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018. Marie was the adored bride of 57 and half years of Ronald E. Rogers. Marie valued family and dedicated her love and life to hers. She was a loyal and devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie (John) Cicero, Theresa (Carl) Rome and Mary (Art) Guidry; three grandchildren, Sara Daigle, Christopher Rome, Jeremy Rome; three great-granddaughters, Kylie, Kendra and Savannah; three sisters, Patricia Long (Robin), Katherine "Kutch" Arcement (Russell), and Elizabeth Plaisance; two brothers, Eugene A. Plaisance Jr. (Paulette) and Thomas P. Plaisance (Lynelle); and six nephews and four nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene A. Plaisance Sr. and Enola Cheramie Plaisance; son-in-law, Kenneth Daigle; and dear family friend, Monsignor James B Songy. He was born October 26, 1932, in Roanoke and came to Norton in 1971, where he resided for the past 45 years. He started his career in communications with Western Electric for 17 1/2 years. He worked for and retired from Bell Atlantic and was very active with the Telephone Pioneers. Sam served as a Scout Master in Roanoke in the late 1950's and later as a Scout Leader when his sons came of age. He loved teaching the boys scouting skills such as camping, cooking, and pioneer skills. He enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader, and devoted friend, loving husband and father. He served as corporal with the 11th Airborne in Korea, in the 1950's. He was proud to have been a Senior Parachutist and Red Hat Rigger. Flying out of Japan, he was involved in aerial supply drops in Korea. He had lifetime memberships in various associations, including the 11th and 82nd Airborne. Sam served as Commander of the Norton VFW 4301 for seven years. He loved showing respect to his comrades. He was proceeded in death by his son, Robert Douglas Lackey; mother and father, Elsie and Hunter Lackey; sister, Ethel Jackson; and brother, William Lackey. Sam is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce Snodgrass Lackey; two sons, Hunter and wife, Teresa, of Dendron, and Vincent Lackey of Stuart; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Pa Sam", and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Military rites will be performed immediately following the funeral by Virginia National Guard Funeral Honors Team and local veterans groups. on July 25, 2016.3
