He was an employee of J.W. Burress for 18 years and a former member of the Roanoke Valley Gem and Mineral Society. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his mother, Blanche Collins Hale; his father, Wilsie J. Hale and stepmother, Annie Hale. He leaves behind his devoted and loving wife of 35 years, Mary Ferguson Hale; two daughters, Kathy Preston of Martinsville, Joyce Goodwin of Roanoke; four sisters, Kathy Norris of Roanoke, Thelma Walker of Rocky Mount, Linda Arrington of Roanoke, Billie Caldwell of Salem; a brother, Ralph Hale of Roanoke; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special aunt, Dolly Sledd of Vinton. Entombment will be in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens, Botetourt County. on April 9, 2001.¹

     Mary Ellen Ferguson Mary Ellen Ferguson Hale of Roanoke, Va., entered a peaceful rest on Friday, February 10, 2017, that freed her from several years of suffering and pain. She was born on February 8, 1937 to Irvin and Garnett Ferguson who greeted her at Heaven’s gate along with her husband, David, and her two brothers, Kenneth and David. Left behind to cherish her memory are two daughters, Kathy Preston of Martinsville, and Joyce Goodwin of Roanoke; two brothers, Benjamin Ferguson of Rocky Mount, and J.D. Ferguson of Amarillo, Texas; and five grandchildren, Lynn Cline, Renee Johnson and husband, Teyon, Eric Law, Brad Shively and Gayle Goodwin Mazyck. She was blessed with 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A special thank you to her great-grandchildren, Hailey Goodwin and her friend, Brandan Basham along with Malcolm Mazyck, her little man, and Patrice Mazyck whom she called her little nurse for all the care and love they gave their Nanny during her illness. Her “angel” and three-year-old great-great-granddaughter, Kimorah Goodwin, was also a great help. An extra special thank you to the physicians, nurses and sitters at Lewis Gale Medical Center for treating our mother like a queen. She will be laid to rest at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens.⁴ She was buried at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens, 7271 Cloverdale Road, Cloverdale, Botetourt Co., Virginia.^4,5 She was born on February 8, 1937 at Davie Co., North Carolina.^5,2,3,4 As of April 1, 1966,her married name was Hale.² She married David Lee Hale, son of Wilsie Julius Hale and Annie Blanche Collins, on April 1, 1966 at Rocky Mount, Franklin Co., Virginia.^2,4 Mary Ellen Ferguson died on February 10, 2017 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 80.⁴

     Doris Pauline Rush was born on September 6, 1942 at Franklin Co., Virginia.^3,8,4 As of July 2, 1960,her married name was Jones.³ She married Eural Thomas Jones on July 2, 1960 at Franklin Co., Virginia.^1,6,3 Doris Pauline Rush died on December 19, 2017 at Franklin Co., Virginia, at age 75.⁹ She Two are dead following a Dec. 19 vehicle crash along Virginia 122, near the intersection of Wirtz Road, according to Virginia State Police. Doris Pauline Jones was driving north on Virginia 122 around 2 p.m. in a 2005 Toyota Camry when a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Rebecca Shively Wright, 58, of Collinsville, traveling south on Virginia 122, crossed the center line and struck the Toyota, the release said. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, the release said. Jones died at the scene; Wright was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for her injuries. She died Dec. 21, the release said. Virginia State Police Senior Trooper D.H. Cepelnik and the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the crash, which is under investigation. on December 27, 2017.⁹

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Pauline C. Rush; one daughter, Mrs. Doris Jones, Rocky Mt; five sons, William I. He was retired from The Lane Company. Eural will be remembered for his fondness of Ford cars and NASCAR racing. Eural was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Thettie Jones; sisters, Mary Lynch, Edith Goins and Ruby Robertson; and brother, Grady Jones. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Doris Jones; brothers, Calvin Jones, Sydney Jones and Alton Jones; brothers-in-law, Dick Rush, Frank Rush and wife, Nellie, Don Rush and Ray Rush.      Nellie Ruth Via was born on February 9, 1934 at Henry Co., Virginia.^1,2,3 As of September 4, 1979,her married name was Rush.¹ She married Alfred Franklin Rush, son of William Earl Rush and Pauline Collins, on September 4, 1979 at Rocky Mount, Franklin Co., Virginia.^1,2 Nellie Ruth Via died on December 3, 2018 at Virginia at age 84.² She Nellie Via Rush, 84, of Hardy, Va. was born February 9, 1934, and went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 3, 2018. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband, A. Frank Rush; her children, F. Dale Joyce, Sheree Major, Hilda Goad, Susan Delong, Polly Prillaman, Harvey Prillaman (Kathy Prillaman), Julie Hubbard (Karl Hubbard), Mary Lou Prillaman; and step-son, Dale Rush. She had 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. With a heart full of love, she assisted with 27 foster children. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Fred and Lessie Via; and sister, Hazel Hale (Roy Hale). Surviving sisters are, Ann Sigmon (Laymond) and Ada Beeghly (Bobby). on December 5, 2018.²

She was nreceded in death by her parents, Elsie Wray Hale and Ed Osben Hale; two brothers, Ed Osben Hale, Jr. and Maitland Nathaniel Hale. Surviving are her husband of 42 years, William Irvin (Dick) Rush; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Richard Thompson, Esther and James Dickerson; son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Tina Rush; special nephew considered a son, Allen Guilliams and wife Penny; grandchildren, Jason Thompson, Faith Thompson, Matthew Thompson, Melanie Thompson, Kristal Rush, Jillian Rush and Remington Guilliams; sisters, Maureen Powers and Connie Guilliams; sisters-in-law, Lucille Hale and Nancy Hale. Also surviving are a host of nieces and nephews. Arlene was a faithful member of Parkway House of Prayer, Vinton. She loved spending time with her family spoiling her grandchildren singing hymns, gardening, cooking, tending to her pets and going to extra mile to help others. She was a precious Christian example even through her suffering. Interment will follow in Oylers Chapel Community Cemetery in Hardy. on April 28, 2002.²
