Tina Louise Bell On Friday, June 17, 2016, Tina Phillips of Salem, Va., was taken into Glory by her Sweet Jesus. Tina was a loving wife, a caring mother, a spoiling grandma and mawmaw, and a compassionate friend. She loved Jesus more than life and made sure all those she came in contact with knew she loved them and that"Jesus loves you more". She was a loving member of Roanoke First Church of the Nazarene and a faithful friend of Catawba Valley Baptist Church. Her favorite phrase and song were "Praise Jesus!" and "Jesus Loves Me". She found great comfort and joy in their truth! Words don't adequately describe the uniqueness and the love, the servant's heart, or the grace that would characterize this precious woman. She showed her family and so many others the love of Jesus. She was preceded in death by her father, William Nelson Bell; mother, Elizabeth Ann Parcel; brother, Everett Vance Parcel; and sister, Karen Sue Bell. Tina is survived by her husband of 35 years, David Phillips; her seven kids and their spouses, Kristy Bell, Jennifer and Steven Crowder, Reggie and Ashley Phillips, Dusty and Shiloh Phillips, Stevie and Nick Washok, Logan Phillips, and Legacie Phillips; eight grandbabies, Jacob, Caleb, and Corban Crowder, Faith Dolin, Hudson and Sawyer Phillips, and Levi and Luci Phillips; three sisters, Sharon Bowman, Debbie and Miguel Hernandez, and Susie Parcell; three brothers, Alan and Betty Musser, Gary Musser, and Kenneth Stanley; her sister-in-law, best friend, and caregiver, Jean Harlow and husband, Eddie; brother-in-law, Charles and Peggy Phillips; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. The family would like to thank the great hospital staffs of RMH, UVAMedical Center, Sheltering Arms, Good Samaritan Hospice, and VCU Medical Center. Walter Milton Correll Jr.1,2

Walter Milton Correll Jr. was born on March 1, 1961 at Roanoke, Virginia.1,2 He married Debra Jean Parcell, daughter of Everett Vance Parcell Jr. and Elizabeth Ann Stump, on April 4, 1984 at Roanoke, Virginia.1 Walter Milton Correll Jr. died on January 4, 1996 at Jarratt, Greensville Co., Virginia, at age 34.3,4 He Walter M. Correll Jr., convicted in the 1985 abduction, robbery and murder of a Roanoke man, died by lethal injection Thursday night in the state's death chamber. A last-minute appeal for clemency to Gov. George F. Allen was denied shortly after 8 p.m., and Correll, 34, was pronounced dead at 9:13 p.m. Correll, who had an IQ of 68, had no final statement. He met with clergy during the day. While in prison, Correll had converted to Catholicism, his lawyers said. Correll was convicted of capital murder for the Aug. 11, 1985, slaying of Charles W. Bousman Jr. Three men stole Bousman's car in Roanoke, stuffing him in the trunk. He was taken to a wooded area in nearby Franklin County, robbed and stabbed to death. The two other defendants, John Dalton and Richard Reynolds, testified that Correll killed Bousman by twice throwing a knife in his chest. But Correll's lawyers contend that Dalton and Reynolds, who were friends of above-average intelligence, blamed Correll for the killing to escape the death penalty for their own acts. The only way Correll could receive a death sentence was if the court found that he struck the fatal blow. Correll confessed to police that he stabbed Bousman, but his attorneys contend the confession was tainted because his request for a lawyer before questioning was denied. Last year, U.S. District Judge James C. Turk ordered a new trial for Correll, writing that "this court cannot imagine a more deliberate and egregious violation of (the right to counsel) than exists in this case.'' The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned Turk's ruling, saying the outcome of Correll's trial would have been the same even if a constitutional error occurred. On Wednesday, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected an emergency request to postpone the execution and denied a formal appeal. Correll's execution was the 30th in Virginia since the state reinstated the death penalty in 1976. Dalton and Reynolds entered plea agreements and are both are serving prison terms. on January 5, 1996.4
