     Joyce Marie Batten Joyce Marie Batten, 84, of Lakeway, Texas departed this life on her own terms on Saturday, July 2, 2022 in Buda, Texas. Joyce was born in Walstonburg, North Carolina, on September 8, 1937 to Ida Corbett Batten and James Stephen Batten. After attending Charles L. Coon High School, she married Charles Franklin "CF" Barron and began her life as a military spouse. For Joyce, the Air Force was a window into a world of travel and many wonderful adventures. Assignments included many states and an overseas station in Fontainebleau, France. Joyce had an uncanny ability to adapt to new surroundings and to make friends easily. After moving back to the states, life found Joyce divorced and a single mother to three. She entered the workforce and was employed at entry-level positions that included everything from assembly line work to driving a forklift. Joyce did what she had to do to care for her family. In 1972, she went to work for the Phillip Morris Company in Richmond, Virginia, and retired in 1993 as a head supervisor of their quality control lab. Upon her retirement, she moved to Austin, Texas, to be near her children and never looked back. Joyce enjoyed dancing, country music, a well-told story, traveling, and a good adventure. Time spent with loved ones was priceless to her. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and now, her great-grandchildren. Her favorite trips were with her children to Denali National Park in Alaska and to Yellowstone National Park and Gardiner, Montana. Joyce did not tolerate injustice well and was outspoken and protective of those she felt were most vulnerable. This quality earned her the nickname of, "Trouble Maker," a moniker she wore with pride. She is survived by her son, Jon Anthony Barron (Gay), her daughter, Sherill Barron Bell (Alan), and her brother, Ronald Stephen Batten (Sharon). She leaves behind six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ida and Stephen Batten, brothers James W. and Mordecai P.
