Mildred retired from the University of Virginia Hospital. She was a member of Hillsboro Baptist Church in Yancey’s Mill. She enjoyed cooking and birdwatching. Survivors include a son, Ralph D. Gowans and wife, Bonnie of Scottsville; a daughter, Hazel A. Bailey of Amherst; a son-in-law, Charlie Brown of Louisa; 6 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a number of other extended family members and friends. Lewis was born September 24, 1949. Lewis was a farmer and was saddened to retire due to his illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abbott K. Herndon and Frances Gibbs Herndon. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife and best friend, Rebecca "Becky" Dodson; his stepchildren, Tina Auth, Clarence Deal Jr. and Douglas Deal; his sisters, Barbara Cosner and her husband, Grant and Erlyne Smith and her husband, George; his grandchildren, Morgan, Katie, Austin, Autumn and Laci; as well as many many other friends and family members.
