     Gladys L. Bailey Gladys L. Via, 92, formerly of Gratis, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at Hospice of Dayton. Born April 24, 1912, in Clifton Forge, Va., she was the daughter of Robert H. and Amanda Lillie (Schull) Bailey. She had retired as postmistress of the Gratis Post Office in 1974 after about 20 years of service. Mrs. Via was a member of Fairfield Wesleyan Church in Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Samuel Via, in 2000; two sons, Samuel H. Via Jr. and Ralph E. Via Sr; a daughter, Wanda Via; and great-grandson, Brian Nickolas Via. Survivors include two sons, Charles (Pat) Via of Franklin and David (Joyce) Via of Germantown; two daughters-in-law, Patsy Via of Vandalia and June Via of Eaton; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis.¹ She was buried at Fairview Cemetery, Gratis, Montgomery Co., Ohio.¹ She was born on April 24, 1912 at Clifton Forge, Alleghany Co., Virginia.¹ As of December, 1930,her married name was Via.² She married Samuel Howard Via Sr., son of William Howard "Willie" Viar and Ellen F. He was a former member of the Gratis Oddfellows Lodge #147 and Gratis Eagles, and a former member of American Legion Post #215 of Eaton. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Via; a brother, Samuel Via Jr; a sister, Wanda Via; a grandson, Brian Via; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Via. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, June Via; five sons, Ralph E. (Theresa) Via Jr., Gregory (Rhonda) Via, Brian (Jeanne) Via, all of Camden, Rodney Via of Somerville and Darrell (Tisha) Via of Germantown; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; his mother, Gladys (Bailey) Via of Franklin; two brothers, Charles (Pat) Via of Carlisle and David (Joyce) Via Sr. of Germantown; and a sister-in-law, Patsy Via of Vandalia. She was a member of the Fairfield Wesleyan Church. She was preceded in death by her father Samuel H. Via Sr. and a brother Samuel H. Via Jr. Survivors include her mother, Gladys L. Via of Gratis; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and June Via of Eaton, Charles and Pat Via of Franklin, and David and Joyce Via of Germantown; sister-in-law, Patsy Via of Vandalia; 14 nieces and nephews.      Charles Andre Via was born on June 2, 1936 at Covington, Kenton Co., Kentucky.^3,4 He married Patricia A. Phelps circa 1959.⁴ Charles Andre Via died on July 19, 2022 at Springboro, Warren Co., Ohio, at age 86.⁴ He VIA, Charles Andre, age 86, of Franklin, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Hillsprings of Springboro. He was born on June 2, 1936, in Covington, Kentucky, to the late Samuel and Gladys Via (nee Bailey). Charles graduated from Gratis High School in 1954. After graduation Charles started working at Armco in Middletown, Ohio, and in January of 1959, Charles joined the United States Army for 2 years, and after his honorable discharge he re- turned back to Armco and retired after 39 years. He belonged to the Middletown Sportsman’s Club, and the Carlisle Lions Club. He was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds. Charles attended the Fairfield Wesleyan Church and was a devoted member for many years. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Samuel Via, Ralph Via, David Via; and sister, Wanda Via; sister-in- law Ellen McLaughlin. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia Via (nee Phelps); daughter, Cathy Via; sisters in law, Joyce, June, and Patsy Via, Barbara (Robert) Brown, Linda (John) Theiss; brothers-in-law, Harold (Sherry) Phelps, Jeffrey (Amy) Phelps, and Jim McLaughlin; as well as many nieces, and nephews. on July 23, 2022.⁴

     David Lee Via Sr. VIA, David L. Sr, age 77 of Germantown, OH. passed away Tues. Jan. 10, 2017 in Eaton. He was born in Covington, KY. on Dec. 6, 1939 to Samuel and Gladys (Bailey) Via. He was a graduate of Gratis High School and had retired from General Motors in 1999 after 29 years. David was a member of Lighhouse Baptist Church in Gratis. He loved to golf, ride motorcycles and he loved animals and nature. He is survived by his loving family, wife of 52 years, Joyce Via, 3 children, David Lee Via Jr., Germantown, OH., Douglas Via (Liza Lewis), Middletown, OH., Jeffrey (Theresa) Via, Gratis, OH., 5 grandchildren, Cameron Via, Collton Via, Ady Via, Bre Via, Kylie Via, and brother, Charlie (Pat) Via, Carlisle, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Samuel Via Jr., Ralph Via and sister, Wanda Via.      Marilyn June Bostic Marilyn "June" Via, age 87, of Gratis, OH passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Maple Gardens Health Care Center in Eaton, OH. She was born April 13, 1935 in Ellenboro, WV to the late Arthur and Sylvia Bostic. She was a member of Sugar Valley United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph E. Via; son Rodney (Debbie) Via; brothers Robert, Dan, Eddie, and Darrell Bostic; sister Carol Marsh; and daughter-in-law Jeanne Via. She is survived by her sons: Ralph (Theresa) Via of Oregon, Gregory (Rhonda) Via of Camden, Brian Via of Camden and Darrell Via of Germantown; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was born Oct. 20, 1956, in Hamilton, Ohio, to William and Betty Humphrey Nein. She was manager of Star Bank in Middletown. She was married to Rodney Via on Sept. 23, 1978. She graduated from Preble Shawnee High School in 1974 and Miami University in 1978. She was a member of Delta Zeta at Miami University. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Leslie Via at home; a son, Clint Via at home; her father, William Nein of Miamisburg, Ohio; a sister, Vickie Miller of West Alexandria, Ohio; a brother, William Nein of Woodland Park, Colo; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Humphrey Nein, on March 23, 1989; and a nephew, Nicky Via. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Camden. on December 1, 1996.²
