Born April 24, 1912, in Clifton Forge, Va., she was the daughter of Robert H. and Amanda Lillie (Schull) Bailey. She had retired as postmistress of the Gratis Post Office in 1974 after about 20 years of service. Mrs. Via was a member of Fairfield Wesleyan Church in Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Samuel Via, in 2000; two sons, Samuel H. Via Jr. and Ralph E. Via Sr; a daughter, Wanda Via; and great-grandson, Brian Nickolas Via. Survivors include two sons, Charles (Pat) Via of Franklin and David (Joyce) Via of Germantown; two daughters-in-law, Patsy Via of Vandalia and June Via of Eaton; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis.1 She was buried at Fairview Cemetery, Gratis, Montgomery Co., Ohio.1 She was born on April 24, 1912 at Clifton Forge, Alleghany Co., Virginia.1 As of December, 1930,her married name was Via.2 She married Samuel Howard Via Sr., son of William Howard "Willie" Viar and Ellen F. He belonged to the Middletown Sportsman’s Club, and the Carlisle Lions Club. He was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds. Charles attended the Fairfield Wesleyan Church and was a devoted member for many years. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Samuel Via, Ralph Via, David Via; and sister, Wanda Via; sister-in- law Ellen McLaughlin. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia Via (nee Phelps); daughter, Cathy Via; sisters in law, Joyce, June, and Patsy Via, Barbara (Robert) Brown, Linda (John) Theiss; brothers-in-law, Harold (Sherry) Phelps, Jeffrey (Amy) Phelps, and Jim McLaughlin; as well as many nieces, and nephews. on July 23, 2022.4

She graduated from Preble Shawnee High School in 1974 and Miami University in 1978. She was a member of Delta Zeta at Miami University. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Leslie Via at home; a son, Clint Via at home; her father, William Nein of Miamisburg, Ohio; a sister, Vickie Miller of West Alexandria, Ohio; a brother, William Nein of Woodland Park, Colo; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Humphrey Nein, on March 23, 1989; and a nephew, Nicky Via. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Camden. on December 1, 1996.2
