Dr. Stuart Scott
Kacy Stuart Scott Kacy, M.D., General Surgeon, of Hallsville, Texas died Monday, August 31, 2015. He was born on July 25, 1952, in Charleston, West Virginia to Mary Lowman Kacy and Bill Kacy, Jr. He moved to Victoria, Texas one week before Hurricane Carla roared through South Texas, in the summer of 1961. Scott spent the remainder of his life in Texas, except for one year in Westfield, New Jersey in 1966 before returning to Victoria, Texas. He fell in love with a state that did everything on such a grand scale. The Gulf Coast remained his home until recently. Scott played the french horn in the high school band, delivered newspapers, worked at a hot dog stand one summer, swam fifteen miles down the Guadalupe River filled with snakes just for the heck of it and worked with an oilfield drilling outfit in the oil patch two summers while going to college. After graduating from Texas A&M University in 1973, he returned to the Gulf Coast to attend medical school and complete his surgical residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch on Galveston Island. Scott completed his residency in 1983 and was invited by the surgical community to establish practice in Beaumont. During the following years he became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Singleton Surgical Society and a Charter Member of the Laparoendoscopic Surgical Society. He was invited to join the Texas Surgical Society. Scott was also a member of Southeast Texas Surgical Associates and a member of MENSA. Scott served on most (and chaired many) committees at both Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital and Hermann Memorial Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. Scott served as Chief of Surgery at each of these hospitals and served as Chief of Staff at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital. He also served as a delegate and alternate to the Texas Medical Society and President of the Jefferson Medical Society. Scott was active in these endeavors in order to improve the care of patients in our area. Scott and his wife, Terri, love Southeast Texas with its lakes, shoreline, forests and people. He enjoyed horseback riding, flying, cooking, motorcycle riding and most recently gardening. Scott loved spending time serving the people of Central America on surgical mission trips. Scott and Terri were married in Honduras, while serving on a medical mission trip. Most of all, he enjoyed the people of Southeast Texas. As a Christian, Scott practiced compassionate care, tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient and their family. Scott and Terri were active members of Beaumont Bible Church where he served as deacon. Scott had a special place in his heart for people of other countries who are not as fortunate as we in the United States are, to have access to medical care. Scott and Terri made several trips to Honduras and Mexico to participate with others for medical mission campaigns. He was fluent in Spanish. Scott recently retired and he and Terri moved to Northeast Texas, outside of Hallsville, to the “Lazy Kacy Ranch” with a small dream home set on a hill overlooking a six acre lake stocked with fish and surrounded by rolling hills and wildlife. Scott loved feeding the deer, fishing, working his garden and most recently learning to can and freeze the produce from his garden.
