He attended schools in the Parsons area and was graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1942. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and had been stationed at Guadalcanal. He returned to Parsons after the war. Mr. Brown worked more than 39 years for Willamette Industries Lumber Co. in Sweet Home as a grizzly operator. He retired in May 1988. He was a member of the Sweet Home Evangelical Church, the Sweet Home Masonic Lodge, and served on the Santiam Fish and Game Commission. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was active in Boys Scouts and little league baseball. He was married to Donna Treadway April 4, 1946. They moved to Sweet Home in 1948. She survives of the home. Other survivors include: three sons, Dwight L. Jr., Dennis W. and Steven L., all of Sweet Home; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his mother, Alice Brown of Sweet Home; two sisters, Barbara Walsh and Beverly Franklin, both of Lebanon, Ore; and four brothers, Larry of Lebanon, Ore., Clarence of Albany, Ore., and Karl and Billy Joe, both of Sweet Home. A brother, Fred, preceded him in death in 1974. Burial will be in Sweet Home Gilliliand Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Sweet Home Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Nos. 34 and 37 and Timber City Post No. 133 of the American Legion in Sweet Home. on July 21, 1989.4

He had been employed by Oregon White Truck Sales of Albany as parts man until his death. He was a member of the Masons, Elks and American Legion, all of Parsons. In addition to his widow, survivors include three daughters, Donie Ann, Terrie Linn and Margaret Louise, and a son, Donald F., all at home; his mother, Mrs. Alice L.      Evelyn Fay Hipp was buried at Gilliland Cemetery, Sweet Home, Linn Co., Oregon.3 She was born on November 28, 1932 at Wessington, South Dakota.3,2 As of September 12, 1952,her married name was Brown.1 She married Billy Joe Brown, son of Clarence Leonard Brown and Alice Louise Coover, on September 12, 1952 at Sweet Home, Linn Co., Oregon.1,3,2 Evelyn Fay Hipp died on April 25, 2015 at Sweet Home, Linn Co., Oregon, at age 82.3,2 She Evelyn Fay Brown, Nov. 28, 1932 — April 25, 2015. Evelyn Fay Brown, 82, of Sweet Home peacefully made her entrance into heaven on April 25 due to complications from Alzheimer’s, while she was surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Wessington, South Dakota, to Eugene and Anna (Grauer) Hipp. Evelyn lived in Sweet Home throughout her childhood and adult life. She graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1951. Evelyn met the love of her life there, Billy Joe Brown, who she later married on Sept. 12, 1952. They were married 60 years. Billy Joe passed away in 2013. Evelyn was a devoted housewife, doting mother of four girls and a remarkable musician. She began her music ministry at an early age as a senior in high school, playing the piano and organ for the Evangelical Church. She joyfully taught piano lessons to many students over the years. Evelyn also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, spending time in her garden and taking care of cattle on their farm. She was a life member of Sweet Home Evangelical Church, Holley Grange, the American Legion and a quilters group. She is survived by her daughters, Priscilla and Roger Barstad, Joleen and Larry Hannen, and Shari and Mike Peterson. She was blessed with seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Brown; daughter Nancy Oar; brothers Eugene, Erick, Elmer and Melvin; sisters Selma and Ilene; and her mother and father, Eugene and Anna Hipp. Burial will follow at Gilliland Cemetery. on May 6, 2015.2
