A native of Crewe, she was a graduate Lewis-Gale Hospital School of Nursing, having served as President four years. She was a member of Cave Spring Baptist Church and a former member of Connelly Memorial Baptist Church for 33 years where she served in many leadership roles. Alice served four years as Roanoke Valley Baptist Associational (WMU) Womans Missionary Union Director as well as many other Associational and State Officers. She served the Virginia Baptist Mission Board six years. She was a former part-time Adjunct Instructor at National Business College in the Medical Dept., and a professional volunteer for 44 years. Following a heart transplant on April 13, 1992, Alice and Nelson devoted themselves to Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Education. Alice was President of the local Transplant Support Group for several years and assisted (VOPA) Virginia Organ Procurement Agency in many ways. Survived by her loving and faithful husband of over 51 years, Frank Nelson; sons and wives, Jeff and Melinda and Barry and Debbie; two grandchildren, Christian and Emily; brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Betty Schaubach of Crewe, Va; numerous nieces and nephews. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on December 13, 2005.4

Smith was born on October 27, 1903 at Virginia.2,3 She died on July 15, 2008 at Virginia at age 104.2,3 She Mrs. Emma C. Hamblin, 104, beloved mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and great-great-great-grandmother, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2008. Born in Barbour County, W.Va., on Oct. 27, 1903, she was a Peninsula resident for more than 50 years. She was a member of Morrison Methodist Church for 50 years, where she was the keeper of the nursery for 18 years, creating bonds with children that has lasted throughout their adulthood. She was a member of the Women's Home Demonstration Club for 25 years and enjoyed making crafts of all kinds in the Club and giving them to family and friends. Emma loved working in her yard and caring for her plants. She often told her children that if she died in her yard digging in the dirt, she would be happy because she felt God's presence all around her. She was also a volunteer with the AARP through her church. Emma was preceded in death by her son, Ernest Hamblin. She is survived by her two sons, Marvin Hamblin of Seaford and Luain Wayne Hamblin of Southern Pines, N.C; her four grandchildren, five great- grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great- grandchild. Interment will be at Peninsula Memorial Park. on July 17, 2008.3

He was a former member of Williamsport Lions Club. Russell is survived by his wife, Martha R. Townsley, whom he married Oct. 20, 1979; son, David R. Townsley of Fairplay, Md; daughter, Joanne R. Townsley and her boyfriend, John Mills, Cearfoss, Md; his beloved grandchildren, Owen and Alexa; sister, Mary Townsley of Coden, Ala; sister, Pat Reyes of San Francisco, Calif; sister, Ginny Ramirez of Modesto, Calif; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; special friends, Jesse and Jean Witmer, Randy and Angie Shifler and Bobby Harmon.
