The dead: Joy 30, and Ernest Jordan, 35, of 2741 Studebaker Rd. The murder-suicide climaxed an argument which began on the sidewalk in front of the home, and sent a babysitter fleeing in terror. The couple's three children were in the home at the time of the shooting but did not witness it. A neighbor told police he saw Jordan and his wife arguing on the sidewalk shortly before 7 p.m. He said Jordan wrote a check, then tore it up and began writing another. Momnets later, Mrs. Jordan fled screaming into the house. The neighbor said Jordan took a 12-gunge shotgun from his car, inserted two shells, then followed his wife. Mrs. Jordan locked the doors, but Jordan tore away a kitchen screen to enter. His oldest daughter, Debbie, 9, saw him coming. She ran to the babysitter, Evelyn Wiebenga, 19, who had been living at the house since the Jordan's separation three month ago. "Daddy's got a gun," the child cried. Miss Wiebenga, police said, ran out the rear door, jumped a back-yard fence and fled. Jordan caught his wife in a back bedroom and shot her in the head before killing himself. Debbie, Cindy, 3, and Trent, 1 were in a front room. Pollen said they were unable to determine what touched off the argument. They said Jordan, employed by a steel firm here, was paying his wife $75 a week separate maintenance under a court order. Officers said the first check he wrote was for $50 and was made out to "Joy Shifflett," Mrs. Jordan's maiden name. The couple's bodies were taken to the Loper funeral home.
