A Celebration of Life will be held at the home of Betty June Whipple, 1501 East 7th Street, Hastings from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016. There will be no viewing or visitation. Ernest was born April 15, 1921, in Broadalbin, N.Y., to Ernest C. Sr. and Mildred (Tyrell) Whipple. He graduated from Broadalbin High School and went to college for tool and die making. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII where he took pilot training at Luke Field. Ernest was a U.S. Air Force pilot and flew weather reconnaissance. Ernest married Betty June Valentine on June 26, 1948. He was also in the Air National Guard in Nebraska. He went to the Elgin watch making school, did combining, and worked at Kerr Plastics Tool & Die. He also worked at Hastings Industries and owned and operated Valentine Motel in Grand Island. In 2003, they moved to Hastings, where he was a member of First United Methodist Church. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tedd Whipple; stepchildren, Kenny and Denny Berding; and sister, Edna. Survivors include his wife, Betty June Whipple of Hastings; two daughters and a son-in-law, Teri and Tam Nguyen of Hastings and Karen Roehm of Gunnison, Colo; a sister, Leona Argotsinger of Gloversville, N.Y; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law and spouse, LaVona and Edward J. Murphy of Hastings. on January 23, 2016.3

He was associated with Heartland Antique Mall in Grand Island. He was a self-employed antique dealer and past president of the Central Nebraska Antique Dealers. He had lived in Grand Island for 15 years. Survivors include his parents, of Grand Island; two sisters, Teri (Mrs. Tam) Nguyen of Hastings and Karen Roehm of Gunnison, Colo; and his grandmother, Mildred Jansen of Gloversville, N.Y. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenny and Denny Berding; and three grandparents. on October 27, 1998.1
