He was also preceded in death by one brother, Newton Hodges; and by one sister, Ollie Mae Plyler. Mr. Hodges was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II in Germany. He attended the Bob White Boulevard Church of God, Pulaski, where he was a member of the Berta Viars Adult Sunday School Class 1-A. He was a retired employee of Coleman Furniture Corp., Pulaski. Surviving are two sons, Lynn Hodges, North Carolina, Richard Hodges, North Carolina; two brothers, Buford Hodges, Roanoke, Jack Hodges, Hurt; five sisters, June Crook, Moneta, Shirley Ann Law, Rocky Mount, Easter Haynes, Rocky Mount, Beatrice Duncan, Columbus, Ga., Nell Mitchell, Eufaula, Ala; very special friends, Sally Umberger, Pulaski, Julie and Estle Hawkins, Pulaski. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, with Mrs. Berta Viars officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home. The family wishes that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. on April 17, 1996.6

He was preceded in death by his father, both sets of Grandparents and one half brother Matthew who died in infancy. John was the youngest brother of half siblings Daniel (Wendy) Strayer of Waterford, MI; Caleb Strayer of Lima, OH; Abigail (Robin Melton) Binkley of St Mary’s, OH and Hannah (Brian) Jurkowski of Front Royal, VA; as well as the much loved full brother to Sarah (Richard) Clark, of Dublin, OH; Joseph (Stephanie) Strayer of Grove City, OH; Margaret Strayer of Hilliard, OH and Susan Strayer of Hilliard, OH. In addition, he is survived by many cousins and nieces and nephews. John will be laid to rest at a later date in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hancock Co., OH, in the family plot. A family memorial will take place at that date as well. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the American Red Cross or American Cancer Society.1 He was born on February 15, 1982 at Bluffton, Allen Co., Ohio.1,2 He died on May 19, 2017 at Columbus, Franklin Co., Ohio, at age 35.2

Born May 5, 1928, in Beckley, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Carna C. and Irene D. Reno Bennett. Mrs. Bennett was a homemaker and a member of the Calloway Heights Missionary Baptist Church. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Jackie Bennett; a grandson, Greg Dangerfield; and a sister, Irene “Marty” McDaniel. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband eight days shy of being married 63 years, Carl E. Bennett of Beckley; four daughters: Kathryn Bailey of Beckley, Dawnie Denny and husband Roscoe of Crab Orchard, Peggy Bennett Campbell of Beckley, and Brenda Metrick and husband Mike of White Oak; and one brother, Wade Curtis of Beckley. She also leaves behind her precious eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with the Rev. Bill Parker and Rev. Jeff Canterbury officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call on the family two hours prior to the service on Wednesday. Wade L. "Buck" Curtis Wade L. “Buck” Curtis was called home on July 31, 2014, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with cancer. Born on November 17, 1937, in Mabscott, WV, he was the son of the late Carna and Irene Reno Curtis. Buck graduated from Woodrow Wilson in 1956, and had worked at Eccles Mine, Southern Industrial Marketers machine shop, Hylton and Perry Machine Shop, and owned Betty’s Ceramics shop with his wife until retirement. “Buck” was blessed in life and death with friends and family. He loved life every day and especially cherished his last days with family and friends who were visiting and caring for him. When asked how he was, he would always answer “Wonderful.” He had bad days but he was always truly blessed with the love of family and friends. I’m sure that today he is more wonderful than he ever could have imagined. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law Joseph and Dixie O’Dell, his sisters Marty McDaniel and Ginny Bennett, his son-in-law Bob Mandeville, brothers-in-law Ben O’Dell, Mork O’Dell, Gene O’Dell and sister-in-law Nada O’Dell. He is survived by wife Betty O’Dell Curtis and their daughters Shari Mandeville, Trish Bryant (Harry), and Carol Curtis. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Matt Warden (Erin, children Lexi and “Pops’ Little Buddy,” Kase), Chris Warden (Laura), Travis Mandeville (Brittany, daughter Makenna), Brandon Peelish, Sara Mandeville, Dave Bryant (Kim, children Carlie and Dylan), PeeWee Mandeville (Patty), Shelia Mandeville (wife of Trigger, deceased). He is also survived by very special nephews and nieces Bruce and Bob McDaniel, Sandy Shrewsbury, Kate Bailey, a host of brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins and many nieces and nephews. Services to celebrate his life will be at Buck’s home church, Calloway Heights Baptist Church on Rural Acres Drive in Beckley, and officiated by Pastor Bill Parker. Visitation will be August 4, 2014, at 12 noon with services beginning at 2 p.m. Graveside services will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, WV. Pallbearers will be Don Riffe, Matt Warden, Chris Warden, Brandon Peelish, Travis Mandeville, Austin McDaniel, BJ McDole, and PeeWee Mandeville. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Crews and Jerry Shaffer.2 He was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5250 Robert Centre Byrd Drive, Prosperity, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.2 He married Betty O’Dell.2 Wade L.
