Born on August 18, 1922, in Galveston, Texas, to Vincent and Angela Kopecky, she was a 1939 Ursuline Academy graduate. She married Edward Layman on September 3, 1949. She was a founding member of the Brazos Valley Chapter Czech Heritage Society of Texas, a member of the K.J.Z.T. and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and was an avid ACBL bridge player, earning master points in her lifetime. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Mary Payssee, of Galveston. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Jerry Taylor of College Station, Margaret and Tony Scofelia of Galveston, Texas, and Betty and Daniel Martin of Friendswood, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, E. Lonnie and Suzanne Layman of Austin; brother, Ivan Kopecky of La Marque, Texas; nine grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jessica and Sara Taylor, Neil and Peter Scofelia, Amanda and Jaclynn Hays and Bryan and Michael Layman; and several nieces, newphews, friends and family members. on February 12, 2008.2

     Dorothy Maurie "Dot" Wren was born on December 29, 1924 at Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas.1,3,4 As of November 14, 1947,her married name was Layman.1 She married Dee Witt Layman, son of Edward Lonnie "Ed" Layman and Helen Lucille Conner, on November 14, 1947.1,2 Dorothy Maurie "Dot" Wren died on September 7, 2012 at Ridgeland, Madison Co., Texas, at age 87.1,4 She Dorothy Wren Layman died September 7, 2012 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. She was born in Ft. Worth, Texas to the late Ruby Raney and Robert Harold Wren. Dot, as she was called by her many friends, graduated high school in Ft. Worth and in 1947 met and married Dee W. Layman. She worked for the government while Dee completed his education in geology at TCU. They traveled early in their marriage with Monsanto Corp., and settled in Jackson in 1959. They moved to Madison in 1974. Dot loved Dee, her Lord, her horses and her dogs. She was an avid bridge player and a long time member of PETROL. She was also a pastel artist. At the time of Dee's death, October 31, 2011, they had been married for 64 years. She is also preceded in death by her twin sister Maureen Harris and her younger sister, Mary Nell Wilson. She is survived by special friends Dr. Heber and Miriam Etheridge. Dot and Miriam had a close relationship for many years, and referred to Miriam as the daughter she never had. She is also survived by nephews, Johnny Harris of Ft. Worth and Jimmy Harris of Navasota, TX. on September 9, 2012.1
