Gary had a passion for life, a passion that is reflected in his favorite motto, "Life is Good." Gary was born October 9, 1946 in Wabash, Indiana. He was the oldest of five children. After graduating from high school where he was the quarterback on the football team and pitcher on the baseball team, he went to Ball State in Muncie, Indiana on a baseball scholarship. He earned his degree in physical education while playing a year of semi professional baseball. Following his college graduation, Gary moved to Southern California to begin his teaching career with the Anaheim Union High School District in 1968. He taught first at Ball Junior High where he coached football and baseball and then transferred in 1980 to Loara High School where he coached tennis and taught photography classes. Gary was very proud that many of his students have become professional photographers and credit him for their love of photography. In addition to mentoring students, Gary was a valued mentor to new teachers. Gary made friends wherever he went, and he enjoyed sharing his life passions with friends, both old and new. Gary loved playing and watching golf, learning about wine, watching Angel baseball games, and trying new recipes. Gary will be missed for his warmth and generous spirit, as well as his willingness to help others with any project, large or small. The world is a better place because of Gary, and those who knew him will always remember his friendship and the impact he had on their lives. Gary is survived by his wife, Jeanette and his stepson, Rory Barnett. The family is asking for donations in Gary's memory to the National Brain Tumor Society. on August 25, 2013.2
