She was a former Sunday school teacher, served on church committees, and was a church usher and greeter. She was an avid animal lover and enjoyed horseback riding, quilting, and gardening. She is survived by her husband Dick C. Dunlap, whom she married Oct. 27, 1982; three daughters, Cheryl L. Krankowski and her husband David W., of St. Leonard, Md., Patricia D. Smartridge and her husband, Eric S., of Odenton, Md., and Nancy Barnett and her husband, Col. David Bennett, of Oahu, Hawaii; four sons, James A. Thorne and his wife Karen, of Berryville, Va., Donald E. Dunlap of Lothian, Md., Russell L. Dunlap and his wife Kelly, of Lothian, Md., and Stephen Dunlap and his wife, Denise, of Accokeek, Md; and 17 grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters Tammy Farmer and her husband, Wayne, of Colonial Beach, Va., and Debbie Myers and her husband, Mark, of Waldorf, Md; two brothers, Buddy Hannum of Bosier City, La., and Robert Hardesty of Mechanicsville, Md., and her mother of Mechanicsville, Md.      Wallace Randolph "Wally" Beamer was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.² He Wallace “Wally” Randolph Beamer, 96, of California, MD passed away on July 28, 2017 at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick, MD. Wally was born to the late Andrew Cerrell Beamer and the late Lena Beamer Dodd in Vienna, VA on May 18, 1921. Like many in his generation, Wally willingly enlisted in the military and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. During his time in the service, Wally served aboard the USS Reuben James (DE-153), USS Philadelphia (CL-41), USS Merak (AF-21), USS Randolph (CV-15) and the USS Midway (CVB-41). He performed anti-submarine duty in the North and South Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea. Wally aided in efforts to shoot down German Junkers 88 aircraft and sunk one German U-boat along the North Atlantic. He received six service medals during his time in the Navy. Aside from sharing wartime stories, Wally’s most enjoyable pastimes included spending time with family and friends, watching various sports games on television, singing karaoke and picking his daily lottery numbers. Since 1937, Wally was a lifetime Washington Redskins fan. He enjoyed many seasons at RFK and FedEx Field stadiums and traveled near and far to cheer on his beloved skins. Many remember Wally for his genuine gentle-nature, his love for his family and his mental sharpness even in the advanced stages of his life. He spoke to the lord every day, although you wouldn’t find him in a church very often. Wally lived by three philosophies all his life: “Don’t dwell on things you don’t have control over,” “You do what you have to,” “Age is just a number. Your true age is in your heart. Be Young at heart.” In addition to his parents, Wally was predeceased by his brothers, Luke, Philip, Rex, Morris and Alvin Beamer; sisters, Betty L. Beamer, Nancy Beamer Hardesty and Dorothy Dodd Gonzales. He is survived by his loving wife, Maryjane Beamer of California, MD; sons, Scott P. Beamer of Ooltewah, TN; Terry T. Beamer of Odessa, FL; daughter, Judy L. Sargent of Mechanicsville, MD; grandchildren, Jason C. Wagner, Jacob S. Beamer, Tara N. Strickland, Lindsey R. Godwin, Blaire K. Beamer, Bryce A. Beamer; great grandchildren, Wyatt Beamer and Ruby Lynn Strickland.      James Merrill Thorne was buried at Green Hill Cemetery, 428 North Buckmarsh Street, Berryville, Clarke Co., Virginia.^1,2 He James Merrill Thorne, 72, of Berryville, Virginia, died Tuesday, November 05, 2013 at his residence. Mr. Thorne was born November 14, 1940 in Washington, DC, son of the late Merrill Columbus Thorne and Angela Elizabeth Walzel Ritter. He was a retired firefighter with the District of Colombia Fire Department. He was a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters and Grace Episcopal Church. He was married to Annetta Louise Hannum Thorne who preceded him in death. He later married Sonia Jean Thorne on December 4, 1982 in Fort Washington, Maryland. Mrs. Thorne died on May 26, 2006. After Sonia’s passing he married Dorothy Duke Thorne on June 16, 2007 in Berryville, Virginia. Surviving with his wife are his mother; two daughters, Cheryl L. Thorne and Patricia D. Thorne; a son, James A. Thorne; a step-daughter, Susan G. Scott; three step-sons, John A. Kelbaugh, Timothy L. Oliver and Donnie L. Oliver; two sisters, Delores Brown and Vivian Mellott; a step-brother, Fred Ritter; and ten grandchildren. His grandson, David M. Krankowski preceded him in death. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Mary Donaldson; daughters Hazel Heffner of Hyattsville and Shari Donaldson of Prospect, Va; sons John Collins of Baltimore and Wesley Donaldson Jr. of Laurel; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. on September 4, 2003.³
