Marion W. Foster1,2,3
M, b. December 25, 1893, d. November 17, 1957
Marion W. Foster Marion W. Foster, son of Charles E. Foster and Sarah Jacobson was born December 25, 1893, in Allen County at Humbolt, Kansas and departed this life Nov. 17, 1957, at 12:30 at the Allen County Hospital at the age of 63 years, 10 months and 23 days. He was married to Gertrude Hillbrant December 25, 1919. To this union two children were born, Merle H. and Marion O. Foster. His father and mother and three brothers preceded him in death. Those left to morn for him are his wife of the home (to whom he was so greatly devoted): Two sons, Merle H. of Haysville, Kans., and Marion O. off Wichita: five grandchildren, Linda, Merle Ann, and Ralph Foster of Haysville, Ginger and Marion Blaine Foster of Wichita; one brother Benjamin F. Foster of Savonburg; Two Sisters Ida M. Overman of Elmonte, Calif. And Olive Jean Kline of Craig Colo., and a host of relatives and friends. He attended Salem U.B. Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He served in World War 1 from May 18, 1918, and received and honorable discharge 28 Dec. 1918. He was employed in the service of Sinclair Pipe Line Co. for 40 years of service, "a short while, ago" (of which he was proud). He and his wife had just returned from a trip to Florida, which will hold many precious memories through the years to come. He was kind and loving father and obliging neighbor. Although his illness has been of long duration he bore it patiently and always had a smile for everyone he met. He loved his grandchildren with most devotion and went to visit them often. His hobby was raising flowers and fixing his home and seeing that those who came there enjoyed themselves greatly. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Though all was done that could be done for him in last illness, the savior took him home where there is no heartaches, pain nor sorrow.3 He was buried at Highland Cemetery, Iola, Allen Co., Kansas.1,2 He was born on December 25, 1893 at Humboldt, Allen Co., Kansas.1,2,3 He married Gertrude Ann Hillbrant, daughter of William Green Hillbrant and Lucy Lavona Whitacre, on December 25, 1919.3 Marion W. His home for many years has been about four miles southwest of Iola. He had been a Sinclair employee 40 years and was still active for the company. He was a native of Humboldt and lived in this locality all his life except for 20 years of residence at Buckner, Mo. Mr. Foster was a member of the Evangelical-United Brethren Church and of the Masonic lodge. He was a veteran of World War I. His survivors include Mrs. Foster; two sons, Merle H. Foster, and Marion O. Foster, both of Wichita; one brother, Ben F. Foster, Savonburg; two sisters, Mrs. Ida M. Overman, El Monte, Calif., and Mrs. Olive J. Kline, Craig, Colo; and five grandchildren.
