She was born July 11, 1928 to Robert and Ruth Wimmer. She grew up in Hampton, Virginia where she met her husband Bob Lumpkin. Bob and Shirley celebrated their 61st anniversary, prior to his death in 2007. Shirley was also preceded in death by her son, Clay Lumpkin and her sister, Joyce Greenwood. She is survived by her two sons; Steve and his wife Andrea, and Greg and his wife Zoe. She is also survived by her four grandchildren and her six great grandchildren. Shirley also leaves behind a sister, Barbara Panchision and a host of nieces and nephews. She was an avid baseball fan, especially enjoying her son's involvement in Warwick Little League. She was a volunteer at Riverside Hospital and a member of North Riverside Baptist Church, Shirley had a great love for dogs and all God's creatures. She had dogs throughout her life, many of them rescue dogs which she cherished. Shirley will be deeply missed by her family and friends. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Crystal and Paul Housman and Tracy Rock, her niece, for their compassion and care during her time of need. A memorial service will be held at North Riverside Baptist Church, 311 Selden Road, Newport News on Thursday, April 30th at 11 a.m. officiated by Reverend Seth Horrell. The family will hold a reception immediately following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to an animal shelter of your choice.
