She was born Dec. 24, 1926, in Whittier, to the late Joseph Bedford and Callie Rebecca Cunningham Sherrill. Mrs. Holcombe was a retired key punch operator for the government. She was a very active member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Theron Dale Holcombe; daughter, Mary Rebecca Holcombe; and brothers, Joseph "J.B." Sherrill Jr. and William "Bill" Sherrill. Mrs. Holcombe is survived by her daughter, Nancy Miller and husband, Gary; grandchildren, Jennifer Kohr (Andrew) and Erin Franklin (Kevin); and great-grandsons, Caleb and Graham Franklin. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 20, at Vanderburg United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Jamie Hamrick and Andy Conder officiating. The body lay in state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Burial followed the service at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rocky Mount UMC Building Fund, 1739 Perth Rd., Mooresville, NC 28117.
