Welder, 97, of Greenville passed away Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a long illness. She was born Feb. 8, 1908, at Marie, a daughter of the late Milburn H. Sr. and Mary Light Cody. Mrs. Welder was a homemaker and a member of Greenville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney W. Welder, in 1967; four brothers, Woodrow, Paul, Robert and Milburn H. Cody Jr; a granddaughter, Debra Lively; and a granddaughter-in-law, Cherri Phillips. Surviving are five sons, Robert W. Welder of Harrison, Tenn., Franklin H. Welder of Kingsport, Tenn., Rodney Leo Welder of Kimberly, Ronnie O. Welder of Milton and Keith C. Welder of Cleveland, Texas; four daughters, Aldene Humphreys of Greenville, Christine Lively of Roanoke, Va., Norma Phillips of Saltville, Va., and Judy Humphreys of Lewisburg; two brothers, Howard Cody of Marie and Alfred Cody of Baltimore, Md; and a sister, Beatrice Cody of Alderson. 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Greenville United Methodist Church, Greenville, with the Rev. Hughllyn Wilson and the Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Groves Funeral Home, Union, and one hour prior to service at the church. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Greenville United Methodist Church. Groves Funeral Home, Union, is in charge of arrangements. on February 15, 2005.5

He was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church at Marie, W.Va., a member of the Hinton Elk's Lodge, the Willowood Country Club, the Marie Ruritan Club, and was an avid golfer, bowler, gardener, and reader. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen G. Shanklin Cody; four brothers, Woodrow, Paul, Junior, and Robert Cody; one sister, Edith Welder; and one granddaughter, Jeanna Carol Cody. Howard is survived by three sons, G. Wayne Cody and wife, Marilyn, of Selma, N.C., Larry Jackson Cody and wife, Debbie, of Chesterfield, Va., and James Wade Cody of San Juan, Puerto Rico; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Jackson Cody of Reston, Va., Lisa Marie Cody-Smith of Leesburg, Va., Joseph Wayne Cody of The Plains, Va., Timothy Wayne Cody of Raleigh, N.C., Jennifer Ann Scott of Raleigh, N.C., Capt. Christopher Sean Cody of Enid, Okla., and Chery Ann Simpson of West Point, N.Y; twelve great-grandchildren, Cody Smith, Darby Smith, Caroline Cody, Elizabeth Cody, Daniel Cody, Rachael Scott, Brant Scott, Kristen Cody, Haley Simpson, Hannah Simpson, Hope Simpson, and Sean Michael Cody; one brother, Alfred Cody and wife, Doris, of Baltimore, Md; and one sister, Beatrice Cody of Lindside, W.Va. The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the New Hope United Methodist Church at Marie, W.Va., with Pastor Sam Haught officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors in Hinton, W.Va., and one hour prior to the service at the church. Born Oct. 10, 1919, at Marie, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Ollie Michael Shanklin, and had lived the early part of her life at Marie. She lived most of her life in St. Albans and retired to Marie in 1977. She was a homemaker and a member of New Hope United Methodist Church. She was a former president of the Ladies Friendship Club of Marie, an avid bowler and a devoted wife, mother, and grandparent. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman Shanklin, former sheriff of Summers County, Lee Roy Shanklin, Kyle Shanklin; and one infant sister. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Howard Jackson Cody at home; three sons, G. Wayne Cody and wife, Marilyn of Selma, N.C., Larry Jackson Cody of Chesterfield, Va., James Wade Cody of San Juan, Puerto Rico; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Jackson Cody of Reston, Va., Lisa Marie Cody-Smith of Leesburg, Va., Joseph Wayne Cody of The Plains, Va., Timothy Wayne Cody of Raleigh, N.C., Jennifer Ann Cody Scott of Raleigh, N.C., Capt. Christopher Sean Cody of Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, Wash., and Chery Ann Cody Simpson of West Point, N.Y; 10 great-grandchildren, Cody Smith, Darby Smith, Caroline Cody, Elizabeth Cody, Daniel Cody, Rachael Scott, Brant Scott, Kristin Cody, Haley Simpson and Hannah Simpson. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the New Hope United Methodist Church at Marie with Pastor Sam Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Church Cemetery at Marie. Friends may call at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors, Hinton, from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and at the church one hour prior to services. on December 10, 2003.4
