She was born in Skipwith, Va. to the late Willie Garner and Vivian Bailey Garner on May 5, 1917. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, D. M. Jones, Sr; sister, Isabel Moore; and brother, Andrew Garner. Mrs. Jones graduated from Chase City High School, attended Radford University and received a B.S. Degree from Averett. Mrs. Jones was a teacher with the Henry County School System for 45 years. She was a charter member of Smith Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a past teacher of the Lucille Mann Sunday school class. She also was Chairperson of the United Methodist Women's Circle 3. and held many other offices at the church. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, D.M. "Butch" Jones, Jr. and Shirley Jones of Collinsville, Va; grandchildren, Leanne J. Holley and David Jones and his wife, Jennifer Jones; great-grandchildren, Tyler J. Brooks and Mackenzie Jones; nieces, Carrie Lee Drewett, Meredith Tuck and Barbara Griffin; and nephews, Edward Garner and Larry Garner. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at Smith Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Schill and the Rev. Rob Colwell officiating. Interment will be at Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Norris Funeral Services today, April 4, 2006 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence. Memorials may be made to Smith Memorial United Methodist Church Debt Reduction Fund, P.O. Box 1081, Collinsville, Va. 24078 and to The American Heart Association, Memorial Processing Center, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Va. 23060-9979. on April 4, 2006.3

She was born in Roanoke, the daughter of the late Wythe LaHugh (Hugh) Cassell and Lucy (Frances) Cassell. Sandra was a beautiful lady with an indomitable spirit. She loved rock and roll music, N.Y. City, Las Vegas, travel in general, great food, and parties. A staunch democrat she supported equal rights for people of all races, genders, and sexual orientations. She supported many charities, particularly St. Jude’s, the National Organization of Women, and the Veterans Hospital. She began her career in beauty school and worked her way up to be a regional manager of Glenby International. She later started her own salon, "HairTrends Inc," with some of her family and friends. She was a mentor and an inspiration to many in the hair business. She had a generous and loving spirit and loved having her family and friends over for wonderful dinners. She was a great cook, photographer, and nature lover. She loved her home on Bent Mt. and her friends and neighbors there. She had a great sense of humor and was a creative thinker. Her philosophy of life is reflected in the lyrics of the song, "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack Simmons, brother-in-law Larry Bryant, and ex-husband Jasper Jones. Left to cherish her memory are her Brother Jimmy Cassell, (Debbie), sister Bonnie Nunley ( Pete), special brother-in-law Dewy Bryant (Janie), and sister-in-law Pat Simmons. Her children, Joy Jones (Charlie), Dawn Campbell (Mark), Yvette Jones (Allen), Jesse Simmons (Lori); her grandchildren Tony Campbell, Erica Blankenship (Darren), Amy Campbell, Brandon Jones, Emma Jones, Alex Curtis, Aria, and Caleb Simmons; some special nieces and nephews, great-grandchildren and many dear friends including her partner in crime, Mary Ann Maslich. The family would like to thank some special caregivers; Kimberly Hairston, Kim Owens, Betty, Tine, Ann, the caregivers at Edley Place, Rheanna, Sarah, and Centra Hospice.3 She was born on April 11, 1939 at Roanoke, Virginia.1,2,3 As of December 31, 1958,her married name was Jones.1 She married Jasper Brandon "J.B."
