Eleanor Irene Mey was born on April 26, 1923 to William and Martha Thiel Mey. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School. She married Harvey Louis Cole and together they had five children; Barbara (William) Neuhaus, Harvey (Penny) Cole, Robert (Sharon) Cole, Dawn (Jeff) Denome and Chari (David) McKimmy. Surviving besides her children are 12 grandchildren; William Neuhaus III, Kerri Briesmiester, Angela Green, Harvey Cole III, Mark Cole, Justin Cole, Mackenzie Hignal, Hollie Harper, Anthony Denome, Jennifer Bader, Christopher Hall, April McKimmy and 19 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Fred E. Mey of Prescott, AZ. She was predeceased by a granddaughter Lori Lynn Neuhaus in 1973, two sisters Marilyn Mey, Lanetta Wright and a brother Kenneth May. After 15 years of marriage her husband Harvey passed at the young age of 38, leaving Eleanor to raise their five children sometimes working three jobs to make ends meet. She was a terrific mixologist at Rodeitcher's in Freeland and later at the Ramada Inn in Midland. She also worked at Tractor Supply, J.C. Penney, and as a receptionist of the Saginaw Osteopathic Hospital. On July 11, 1986 she married Michael Stanko. They resided at Houghton Lake for many years where they enjoyed numerous days together fishing. Michael passed away on February 5, 2006. Eleanor's most rewarding job was being a mother and watching her children and grandchildren grow into kind, caring adults. She was an avid chef, creating her own cookbook, making copies for numerous family members so her recipes may be enjoyed for years to come. She catered the food for the weddings of her three daughters. Flower arranging, gardening, sewing, crocheting, cake decorating and card playing were some of her many hobbies. She was a self taught piano player and enjoyed bringing music into the homes of her children and others. She was a very giving person, always helping others when she saw a need, and instilled these values into her children. We wish to thank Beth Cox of Saginaw, the staffs of Masonic Pathways and Gratiot Medical Center for their kind, exceptional care. A memorial service will take place on Friday, February 13, 2009 at the McIntyre Funeral Chapel, 500 N. Michigan at 11:00 am. Sr. Elaine Raymond will officiate. Family and friends may visit on Friday from 10 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, it was Eleanor's wish that donations be made to Hidden Harvest, the Saginaw Rescue Mission or to the East Side Soup Kitchen. on February 11, 2009.³
