He married Mildred Evelyn (Gowen) Pippin on August 31, 1988 in Prince William County. Okey retired from the Fairfax County School System after 22 years of service, and they moved to Orange in 1992, because he wanted to be in the outdoors, where he enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Mildred; two sons, Kevin Earl and Kenny Avery Vance; two step-sons, Jack Pippin (Elizabeth Stofflet), Richard Pippin (Peggy Bettis); two step-daughters, Donna Cornwell (Michael Allen), Gladys Ridgeway (Billy); one brother, Clarence “Shorty” Vance; one sister, Ina Geraldine New; 25 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Okey was preceded in death by a son, Kelly Wayne and stepson Jesse Pippin Jr ; four brothers and two sisters.
