Born July 21, 1931, in Hardy County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Daniel Edward Mongold and Alice Virginia (Helmick) Mongold. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lynden Carl Mongold, in June 1966, her second husband, Willie Houston Cousins, in November 2000, a son and a grandson. Surviving are a son, James William Mongold of Timberville, Va; two daughters, Brenda Sue Hines of Moorefield, W.Va., and Barbara Jean Baldwin of Broadway, Va; two stepsons, Willie Cousins Jr. of Lacey Spring, Va., and Bobbie Cousins of Deerfield, Va; five stepdaughters, Margaret Reedy of Bridgewater, Va., Barbara Ramsey of Deerfield, Va., Sharon Snyder of Deerfield, Va., Sandy Golliday of Richmond, Va., and Pammie Jarvis of Bealeton, Va; a half sister, Pat Wills of Hancock, Md; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous step-grand and great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, U.S. 11, Harrisonburg, Va., with the Rev. Harold Cullers officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington St., Moorefield. on January 2, 2013.¹

Born on November 8, 1922 in Nelson County she was the daughter of the late George Wells and Sadie M. Goolsby Wells. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, John Cashion and her second husband Elbert Fred Dowdy; three sisters, Sally Ramsey, Virginia Davis, and Theo White; and four brothers, Bobby Wells, Jimmy Wells, Winfred Wells, and George Wells. Doris is survived by her children, Carla Puffenbarger (Chris) of Millboro,VA, Linda Weinedell of Mississippi, Fred Lee Dowdy of Churchville, VA and Mark Cashion (Ruby) of Verona, VA; a brother Warren Wells (Dee) of Schuyler, VA; five grandchildren, Amber, Afton, and Austin Dowdy of Churchville, VA and Mikahla and Justin Puffenbarger of Millboro, VA as well as a host of nieces and nephews.³ She was born on November 8, 1922 at Nelson Co., Virginia.^1,3 As of June 29, 1960,her married name was Dowdy.⁴ She married Elbert Fred "Freddie" Dowdy, son of Elwood Hill Dowdy and Bertha Ellwood Johnson, on June 29, 1960 at Reidsville, Rockingham Co., North Carolina.^1,3,4 Doris Helen Wells died on January 27, 2022 at Lynchburg, Virginia, at age 99.³
