He worked for Shafer Pipeline and S&T Pipeline for 35 years as a master mechanic. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Ginny Lou (Molnar) Burdette; son, David A. Burdette and wife, Beverly, of Chama, N.M; brothers, Jim Burdette and wife, Rene, Henry Burdette and wife, Wanda, all of Clendenin; sisters, Mary Burdette Bird and husband, Melvin, of Melbourne, Fla., and Martha Burdette Holbert of Clendenin. The family would like to thank Hospice Home Care and a special thanks to friends and family for all their help and love. Peabody's funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at Matics Funeral Home in Clendenin with Pastor Lee Swor and Pastor Darris Barker officiating. Mattie is survived by her sons, Marvin Shafer of Clendenin, Roger Shafer and wife Sherry of Buford, Ga., Eddie Shafer of Clendenin, and Teddie Shafer and wife Faye, of Clendenin; daughters, Barbara Samples of Polk City, Fla., Marjorie Harris and husband Danny of Polk City, Fla., Ann Wehrle and husband Danny of Clendenin and Lois Cottrell and husband Tim of Elkview; brothers, Herbert Withrow of Elkview, Paul Withrow of Lutz, Fla., and Charles Withrow of Elkview; sisters, Alvie Shafer of Clendenin, and Marie Groot of Holiday, Fla; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at Matics Funeral Home, Clendenin, with the Rev. Danny Cunningham officiating. Roger Eugene Shafer Roger Eugene Shafer, 66, of Buford, GA, was taken suddenly in a construction accident on September 17, 2011, while in Wills Creek, West Virginia. He graduated from Clendenin H.S. in 1963, served in the Air Force, and worked in construction both here in the United States and Bolivia, South America. While in Buford, GA, he founded his own company, Shafer Welding & Mechanics which was in business for over 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Shafer and Mattie Withrow Shafer. Roger and his wife were retired and immensely enjoyed time with their grandsons and family. They also traveled throughout the U.S., most often in the West. He looked forward to elk hunting each autumn in Colorado with friends and family. Roger was much beloved and well-respected by all that knew him. He will be greatly missed. He was married to Sherry Legg of Cannelton, WV, in 1969. They had two daughters, Christy Spooner, and Holley Shafer, of Cumming, GA. His family also includes son-in-law, Michael Spooner, grandsons Reiken, age 6, and Caelix, age 3, of Cumming, GA, and in-laws William and Norma Legg of Buford, originally of Cannelton. He is also survived by sisters, Barbara Samples and Marjorie Harris of Polk City, FL, Ann Wehrle of Clendenin, and Lois Cottrell of Elkview; brothers, Marvin, Eddie and Teddy Shafer, all of Clendenin. Calvin Teddy Shafer was buried at Molt C. Shafer Family Cemetery, Clendenin, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.1 He Calvin Teddy Shafer, 61, of Clendenin, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston following a long illness. He was the son of the late Ray Edward and Mattie Faye (Withrow) Shafer. Teddy was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Faye (Seabolt) Shafer; and brothers, Marvin and Roger Shafer. Teddy, a 1972 graduate of Herbert Hoover High School, was a loving husband, brother, step-father, and step-grandfather. He drove a truck for Emory Freight in Charleston and also worked as a laborer for Shafer Welding in Buford, GA. Teddy then returned to WV as a security officer for Bedway Security in Charleston. Survivors include his brother, Eddie Shafer and companion Dawn Spradlin, of Clendenin; sisters, Barbara Samples of Polk City, FL, Marjorie Harris and husband Danny, of Polk City, FL, Lois Cottrell and husband Tim, of Pinch, Ann Wehrle and husband Danny, of Clendenin; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Living Riverside, the nurses at ICU Saint Francis and Dr. Zekan for their tender loving care. We would also like to thank our cousin, Penny Shafer, for all her kind care and compassion. Teddy’s funeral service will be 1 pm Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Matics Funeral Home in Clendenin with Pastor Danny Cunningham officiating. Burial will be at the Molt C. Shafer Family Cemetery in Clendenin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Frances (Larch) Seabolt; and brothers, Lee, Roy, and Paul Seabolt. Faye is survived by her husband, Teddy Shafer; son, Roger Edward Harper and wife Roseanna of Clendenin; daughter, Angela Marie Harper and husband Ralph of Walton; brothers, Perry Seabolt of Dunbar, Gary Seabolt of Utah, and Billy Joe Seabolt of Kentucky; sister, Betty Gillenwater of Ripley; and grandchildren, Roger Jr., Nathan, Kimberly, and Christa.
