     Marlene Marie Maxey was born on December 14, 1934 at Roanoke, Virginia.^5,1 As of December 29, 1951,her married name was Williams.² She married Neil Horton Williams on December 29, 1951 at Roanoke, Virginia.^2,3 Marlene Marie Maxey died on August 10, 2015 at Virginia at age 80.⁵ She Marlene Maxey Marie Williams, 80 of Roanoke, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 10, 2015 after a brave battle with leukemia. Marlene was born on December 14, 1934 in Roanoke, to the late Waverly and Virginia Maxey. She is preceded in death by her husband, Neil Williams, son, Michael Williams, and a brother, Donald Maxey.Marlene fell in love and married Neil Williams and their two children, Michael and Steven were born from this union. Neil passed away in 2012 and now the two are reunited in heaven.Marlene was surrounded by love in her final journey of life by her precious son, Steven, and grandson, Shannon, also by her sister, Joan Solomon, of Virginia Beach, and nieces, Susan Solomon, Michelle Wilson, and family were there by her side to comfort her on her journey.Marlene retired from ITT after 30 years of service. She enjoyed attending her monthly ladies lunch group and her church friends group directed by Billy Booth. Marlene loved to attend her grandchildren's sports activities and they, enjoyed her famous chicken and dumplings and German chocolate cake.Marlene was a loving and caring person who always shared her smile, (this smile will never be forgotten), and was always was doing something for others. "To know her was to love her". Marlene enjoyed sharing her jokes, and spending time with family and friends. She was a devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who will be dearly missed by all.Marlene leaves behind to cherish her smile and memory are her son, Steven Williams and wife Rebecca; grandchildren, Shannon Williams and wife Dixie, Samuel, Tanner, and Grace Whitesell, and Elle Williams; great-grandchildren, Reeselynn, Dylan, and Adeline Williams; daughter-in-law, Tu Williams, and grandchildren, Matthew and Sandra, all of Calif.Marlene remarked in her last days that she had no regrets, as she laughed, and played "Operation" with her grandchildren, and that she had lived a peaceful and comfortable life with all her family and friends.The family would like to give a special THANK YOU to all her friends, neighbors, and her special caregivers at Lewis Gale Medical Center for all their care during this difficult time.In Marlene's memory, donations would be appreciated to the American Cancer Society.      Neil Horton Williams was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Virginia.⁴ He was born on September 5, 1931 at Roanoke, Virginia.^3,5 He married Marlene Marie Maxey, daughter of Waverly Alexander Maxey and Virginia Senor Goodwin, on December 29, 1951 at Roanoke, Virginia.^2,6 Neil Horton Williams died on March 6, 2012 at Virginia at age 80.^5,4 He Neil H. Williams, 80, of Roanoke, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2012. Neil was preceded in death by his parents, William (Bill) and Mary Louise Williams; and his son, Michael Williams. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marlene; son, Steven and wife, Rebecca; daughter-in-law, TU; grandchildren, Shannon and wife, Dixie, Ellie, Sandra, Matthew, Sam, Tanner, and Grace; great-grandchildren, Reeslyn, Dillon, and Adeline. Neil was a proud member of the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean War. He was retired from the Roanoke City Police Dept. The family wishes to thank doctors and nurses at Lewis Gale Medical Center for their wonderful care. A Graveside Service will be conducted 11 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Steve Odell, Pastor Chris Yopp, and Pastor Billy Booth officiating. He was raised in Roanoke and played football for William Fleming High School and Emory and Henry College. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife and children, Tu, Matthew and Sandra Williams, all of Chino, Calif; his parents, Neil and Marlene Williams of Hardy, Va; his grandmother, Louise Williams of Roanoke, Va; his brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Denise Williams of Roanoke, Va; his nephew and family, Shannon, Dixie and Reeselynn Williams of Roanoke, Va; his step-niece and husband, Nicole and Joshua Herron of Salem, Va; and his step-nephew and son, Russell and Shawn Haygood of Salem, Va; as well as numerous friends. He was affectionately known as "Maxey". He was a loving and devoted father. Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Maxey Taylor; a son, Rich Maxey; sisters, Marlene Williams, Joan Solomon, all of Roanoke; nieces and nephews, Susan Solomon, Michelle Wilson, Mike Williams, and Steve Williams. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, October 17, 1996, at Lotz Vinton Chapel. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Funeral Home, Vinton on October 16, 1996.⁵

     Edna Marie Epperly was born on November 16, 1931 at Roanoke, Virginia.^1,3 As of November 16, 1948,her married name was Sowers.¹ She married Houston Ray "Hoot" Sowers Sr. on November 16, 1948 at York, York Co., South Carolina.¹ Edna Marie Epperly and Houston Ray "Hoot" Sowers Sr. were divorced on June 4, 1958 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.¹ As of December 23, 1958,her married name was McFarland.⁶ Edna Marie Epperly married James William McFarland on December 23, 1958 at Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., Virginia.^4,6,2 Edna Marie Epperly died on April 12, 2017 at Mesa, Maricopa Co., Arizona, at age 85.² She Edna Marie Epperly McFarland passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 12, 2017 in Mesa, AZ. Edna was born in Roanoke, VA to Alonza and Myrtle Epperly. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy S. Robertson (Doug), Mesa, AZ; her son, Stephen R. Sowers (Karen), Windsor, VA; her special daughter, Wanda W. Sowers, Newport News, VA; her sister, Dorothy E. Jones (Roy), Pilot, VA; her twin brother, Edward Lee Epperly (Dollie), Christiansburg, VA; grandchildren, Stephanie Robertson Smith, Mesa, AZ; S. Douglas Robertson, Newport News, VA; Deborah Robertson Madore (Jerry), Vassalboro, ME; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, James W. McFarland; grandson, Stephen Shawn Sowers; and granddaughter, Misty Marie Sowers. on April 15, 2017.²
