Marlene was born on December 14, 1934 in Roanoke, to the late Waverly and Virginia Maxey. She is preceded in death by her husband, Neil Williams, son, Michael Williams, and a brother, Donald Maxey.Marlene fell in love and married Neil Williams and their two children, Michael and Steven were born from this union. Neil passed away in 2012 and now the two are reunited in heaven.Marlene was surrounded by love in her final journey of life by her precious son, Steven, and grandson, Shannon, also by her sister, Joan Solomon, of Virginia Beach, and nieces, Susan Solomon, Michelle Wilson, and family were there by her side to comfort her on her journey.Marlene retired from ITT after 30 years of service. She enjoyed attending her monthly ladies lunch group and her church friends group directed by Billy Booth. Marlene loved to attend her grandchildren's sports activities and they, enjoyed her famous chicken and dumplings and German chocolate cake.Marlene was a loving and caring person who always shared her smile, (this smile will never be forgotten), and was always was doing something for others. "To know her was to love her". Marlene enjoyed sharing her jokes, and spending time with family and friends. She was a devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who will be dearly missed by all.Marlene leaves behind to cherish her smile and memory are her son, Steven Williams and wife Rebecca; grandchildren, Shannon Williams and wife Dixie, Samuel, Tanner, and Grace Whitesell, and Elle Williams; great-grandchildren, Reeselynn, Dylan, and Adeline Williams; daughter-in-law, Tu Williams, and grandchildren, Matthew and Sandra, all of Calif.Marlene remarked in her last days that she had no regrets, as she laughed, and played "Operation" with her grandchildren, and that she had lived a peaceful and comfortable life with all her family and friends.The family would like to give a special THANK YOU to all her friends, neighbors, and her special caregivers at Lewis Gale Medical Center for all their care during this difficult time.In Marlene's memory, donations would be appreciated to the American Cancer Society. Williams, 80, of Roanoke, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2012. Neil was preceded in death by his parents, William (Bill) and Mary Louise Williams; and his son, Michael Williams. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marlene; son, Steven and wife, Rebecca; daughter-in-law, TU; grandchildren, Shannon and wife, Dixie, Ellie, Sandra, Matthew, Sam, Tanner, and Grace; great-grandchildren, Reeslyn, Dillon, and Adeline. Neil was a proud member of the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean War. He was retired from the Roanoke City Police Dept. The family wishes to thank doctors and nurses at Lewis Gale Medical Center for their wonderful care. A Graveside Service will be conducted 11 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Steve Odell, Pastor Chris Yopp, and Pastor Billy Booth officiating.
