He then attended the General Electric training school in Schenectady, N.Y., and worked for Indianapolis Power and Light before moving to Portland in 1941. An electrical engineer, he worked for the Bonneville Power Administration for 31 years, retiring in 1972. In 1970, he received a distinguished service award and gold medal for his work planning the Oregon-California power intertie. He moved to Mesa, Ariz., in 1978, and to Wilsonville in 1994. In 1941, he married Catherine Matson. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Caryanne Conner of Portland and Jane Rackley of Lake Oswego; and four grandchildren. Interment will be in Portland Memorial Mausoleum. The family suggests remembrances to Legacy VNA Hospice. on January 20, 1999.2

She was the widow of James Luther Stump and is survived by her children, James Luther Stump, Jr. and wife, Shirley of Bristol, Va., Peter Stump of Floyd, Va., Judy Ann Thompson and husband, Harry of Livingston, Texas, Roberta Massingill of Wisebaben, Germany; sisters, Ellen Norton of Floyd, Va., Nancy Tyree of Roanoke, Va. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by another son, William Edward Stump. A graveside service will be held in Sherwood Memorial Park. on January 3, 2002.2
