He was 93 years old. Bill spent most of his life in Crown Hill as a coalminer where he received his 60-year pin from the WVCMA District 17. He was known as a man who loved the river, to fish, to tell stories, to laugh and to eat Tootsie Roll Pops. Bill enjoyed the companionship of his dog, Milo, and his cat, Tom. Bill was a simple man who thought always of his family. "... He was an old coalminer who worked hard all his life to support six kids and a wife." He was preceded in death by one son, Frank "Frankie" of Hazelton, Pa., and one grandson Robert "Bobbie" Coleman of Newark, Delaware. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 70 years, Margaret of Hansford; along with five children, Billie Jean Coleman of Modena, Pa., Wanda Elswick of Hansford, Ronnie Petry and her husband, Butch, of Hurricane, Dale and his wife, Sherry, of East Bank, Anthony and his wife, Lois, of Fredericksburg, Va., and Lana Elswick daughter in law of Hazelton, PA. He was also survived by 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his wife and family and a host of friends from Crown Hill and Hansford. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 15, at J. E. Johnson Funeral Home in Kanawha City with Carl Petry officiating. Burial will follow at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. on August 13, 2005.2

Dale enjoyed watching his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, spending time with his family, and spoiling his two favorite people, his grandchildren, Madison and Braden. Survivors include his loving wife of 29 years, Sherrie; children, Jeremy Elswick and wife Samantha of Belle, and daughter, Erica Elswick of Chesapeake; mother, Margaret Elswick of Hansford; sisters, Billie O'Neal and husband George of Crown Hill, Wanda Elswick of Hansford, Ronnie Petry and husband Butch of Hurricane; brother, Anthony Elswick and wife Lois of Locust Grove, Va; two grandchildren, Madison and Braden Elswick; sister-in-law, Lana Elswick; a host of nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Basha, Dr. Khalid and the staff of 5 South and SICU at CAMC Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pryor Funeral Home, East Bank, with the Rev. Don Dobbins officiating. Burial will follow at Kanawha Valley Memorial Garden, Glasgow. Mr. Adkins was a WWII Navy veteran and a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a Mason, Coal Valley Lodge #74 of Montgomery, WV, Shriner, Beni Kedem Temple of Charleston, WV , member of the York Rite, as well as a member of the Eastern Star Winyah 148 in Georgetown, SC. Mr. Adkins was a retired manager with Imperial Colliery Coal Company who enjoyed woodworking as a hobby. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Betty Lou Adkins; a daughter, Rita A. Hutchinson (Al) of Pawleys Island; two grandchildren, Tara Clemmons (Steve) of North Myrtle Beach and Tawnya Sherer (Duncan) of Myrtle Beach; three great grandchildren, Harrison, Carter and Taylor; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Harry Adkins Jr. and Gaylord Adkins. Elswick, 66, of East Hollywood Boulevard, Dippel Manor, Hazleton, passed away Tuesday evening at Mountain City Nursing Center following a short illness. Born in Hazleton on June 6, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lavina (McGlynn) Dusick and spent most of her life in the Hazleton area. Lana was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Hazleton. She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband, Franklin D. Elswick, who passed away Jan. 4, 2001. Surviving are three sons, Joseph; David and his wife, Maureen, and their daughter, Olivia; and John, all of Dippel Manor. Her funeral will be held with a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on June 13 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 604 N. Laurel St., Hazleton. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Drums. The family will receive friends at the church June 13 from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Alzheimer's Association, 71 N. Born in Hazleton, July 29, 1966, he was the son of the late Franklin D. and Lana J. (Dusick) Elswick, and spent his entire life in Hazleton. He had been employed as a Press Operator for Bemis Inc, Valmont Industrial Park. He was a member of St. Josephs RC Church, Hazleton. He was also a member of the Slovak Club, Hazleton; K Club, West Hazleton; and the Hazleton Owls Club. Surviving are two brothers Joseph Elswick; and David Elswick and his wife Maureen; and a niece Olivia Elswick, all of Hazleton; and his companion Mia Sterling, Hazle Township. His funeral will be held Saturday at 8 pm from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East) 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums. Following private cremation, interment of his ashes will take place privately in Calvary Cemetery, Drums. Prior to the service a viewing will take place at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6-8 pm. on November 25, 2010.2
