He had undergone two operations in recent years and had been in failing health since 1972. Mr. Kunes was born April 17, 1908 in Blanchard, a son of Harry and Emma Frick Kunes. He and his wife, the former Mabel Kunes of Blanchard, were married May 1, 1933 in the home of his parents which the couple have lived in since their marriage. Mr. Kunes was employed by Beech Creek General Refractories and was a supervisor of Liberty Township roads. He worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for eight years until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of the Blanchard Church of Christ. Surviving in addition to his widow are two sons, Leo Clayton Kunes of Avis and Bruce Kunes of Mill Hall R.D; two daughters, Mrs. John Gilbert of Howard R.D. and Mrs. Richard Benner of Milesburg; six grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Franklin Heverly of Blanchard, Mrs. Homer Broker of Palo Alto, Calif., and Mrs. Lorenzo Kemmerer of Williamsport. on April 24, 1976.⁴
