Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at 11 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church, 310 W. Water St., Lock Haven, Pa. 17745. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lock Haven. on April 25, 2017.1

William Henry Kunes was buried at Liberty Baptist Cemetery, Blanchard, Centre Co., Pennsylvania.4 He William H. Kunes, 90 of Beech Creek, departed this life on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on February 9, 1922 in Jersey Shore, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Kunes. His family moved to Beech Creek in 1924 and he lived there his entire life. Bill was a very proud Marine serving in WWII. Upon discharge, he worked in various jobs with the local brickyards, farms and railroads. He enjoyed 33 wonderful years of retirement after only serving 25 years as a Corrections Officer at the State Correctional Institution at Rockview. Along with his wife, Vivian and family, he owned and operated Viv and Bill's Restaurant in Beech Creek from 1961 to 1973. He enjoyed attending the Rockview Retiree's Breakfast every Wednesday at the Sunset Restaurant in Pleasant Gap, going to camp, hunting, baseball, attending the Bloomsburg Fair and spending time with his family. He was an active member of the Liberty Baptist Church of Blanchard, the Beech Creek American Legion, where he held the position of Chaplain for many years; a member of the Nittany Leathernecks of the State College Area; and Charter member of the Beech Creek/Blanchard Fire Company where he served as their first Fire Chief. He married Vivian Fravel in 1940 who survives at home. He was preceded in death by one sister, three brothers, daughter Barbara Young and son-in-law Dave Wian. He is also survived by his son, Garry (Juanita); daughters, Nancy (Terry) Hendricks; Trudy (Eddie) Weaver; Mary Wian; Dretta (Kevin) Andrews and son-in-law Don Young. He has 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday, November 25, 2012 at the Liberty Baptist Church of Blanchard, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. there will be a funeral service at 3:00 following the visitation with the Pastor Stan Johnson officiating with military honors following the service. Yvonne Claire Peterson was buried at West Beef River Cemetery, Strum, Trempealeau Co., Wisconsin.1,4 She Yvonne Claire Kunes, 83, lifelong resident of Strum, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at Crystal Lake Manor in Strum. Yvonne was born May 18, 1924, in Eau Claire to Chester and Gertrude (Hawkins) Peterson of Strum. She graduated from Mondovi High School and attended Eau Claire Teachers College, after which she joined the U.S. Army and served as a nurse at an Army hospital in Denver where she met her future husband, Porter Kunes. They were married on Aug. 9, 1946, in Denver. After she left the service, she and Porter returned to Strum where they raised their three sons. Yvonne worked at Presto Industries in Eau Claire in the 1970s and as a waitress at the Strum Cafe. Yvonne was a member of American Legion Post 459 in Eleva. She was active in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strum, teaching Sunday school, working with women's fellowship and serving as church secretary for several years. She would volunteer at Strum Grade School and would check on the elderly by phone on a daily basis. Yvonne was an avid reader and enjoyed caring for her family, whether it was packing lunches for her husband, cooking soup to share with her family and her neighbors, or taking care of her grandchildren. Yvonne is survived by two sons, Thomas (Anne) Kunes of Madison and David (Judy) Kunes of Strum; a daughter-in-law, Michelle Kunes of Oshkosh; one brother, Lynn (Lila) Peterson of Altoona; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Gertrude; her husband, Porter, in 1987; a son, Steven, in 2005; and one brother, Dennis. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Strum, with the Rev. Christine Emerson officiating. Burial with military rites will be in West Beef River Lutheran Cemetery, rural Strum. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at the church and one hour before services Tuesday at the church. She was a charter member of the Beech Creek Blanchard Ladies’ Fireman’s Auxiliary, the Beech Creek Legion, and the Beech Creek Friendship Community Center. She also was involved with the Senior Cheer Club and Ladies’ Friendship Circle. She was employed at various businesses: Sylvania, Piper and Crow’s Diner. From 1960 to 1973 she and Bill owned and operated Viv & Bill’s Restaurant in Beech Creek. Vivian enjoyed spending time with her family and crocheting. She also enjoyed selling knives and other items at various bazaars. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by eight sisters and brothers, son Garry, daughter Barbara Young and son-in-law Dave Wian. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Juanita Kunes; daughters Nancy (Terry) Hendricks, Trudy (Eddie) Weaver, Mary Wian, Dretta (Kevin) Andrews; and son-in-law Don (Karen) Young; and brothers Arden and Jay Merryman. She has 14 grandchildren, 27 great-great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Visitation and services will be Tuesday, July 5, 2016, from 4 to 6 p.m. with Pastor Chris Davis and Rev. Alan S. Eckenroad officiating at the Liberty Baptist Church, Blanchard, with service to follow at 6 p.m. Burial will be at Baptist Cemetery, Blanchard, at the family’s convenience. on July 1, 2016.3

Garry Gene Kunes Garry G. Kunes, 73 of Snow Shoe, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014 at his home with his family by his side. He was born on January 4, 1941 in Beech Creek, the son of the late William Kunes and Vivian Kunes of Beech Creek. He was married to his wife of 47 years Juanita Kunes who survives at home. Garry served as the Centre Co. Sheriff for two terms and retired from Rockview Correctional Institute. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines. Garry enjoyed traveling, farming, and anything to do with the outdoors. He loved playing cards particularly poker. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of the Clarence Moose, Clarence Legion, and he was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Along with his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons; Kent (Linda) Wood of Hamilton, VA, and Garry G. (Codie) Kunes II of Snow Shoe, four sisters; Nancy Hendricks, Trudy Weaver, Mary Wian, and Dretta Andrews. He was preceded by a sister Barbara Young. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Connor & Dana Wood, Erin, Garren, and Shane Kunes.
