State police placed a murder charge against his wife, Mrs. Mabel McCutcheon, 34. She had been released from the county jail Thursday afternoon under a $2,500 bond on a malicious wounding charge but surrendered herself at the prosecuting attorney's office Friday morning following her husband's death. It was understood that a new bond would be set by Intermediate Judge Jackson Savage. State troopers quoted Mrs. McCutcheon as saying that she shot at her husband several times when she found him in a room of their home with another woman. Troopers said that she then attacked the woman with her fists and that the woman ran from the home. State police, it was understood, are searching for the woman to be held as a material witness. Surviving Mr. McCutcheon besides the widow are three children, Jewell Marie, Hazel and Jimmy McCutcheon; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. McCutcheon; four sisters, Mrs. L. C. Salmons, Mrs. L. B. He loved going to church and was a member of First Baptist Church, Tyler Mountain. He was a loving father and a faithful friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, William W. and Nettie Covey Berry; his wife of 49½ years, Anna Mae Berry; brothers, Forrest "Plucky" and Dayton Berry; and sisters, Garnett Moss, Ethel Haynes and Phyllis Cummings. He is survived by his brother, the Rev. William K. Berry and his wife, Vivian; sister, Berneze Shamblin; and daughter, Catherine "Cathy" Mullins and her husband, Gerald, whom he loved as a son. He had several nieces and nephews and a host of family members and friends who were all dear to him.
