Va., he was married on June 17, 1945 to Elaine Ratzlaff in Newport, Ore. The couple came here from North Dakota in 1950. Brown, for the past several years, has been an over-the-road driver for Salt Creek Freightways. The family home is at 3113 East Eighth. He was a member of Casper Lodge No. 22, I.O.O.F. Surviving besides his wife Elaine, are three children: Scott Douglas, 7, Brent Crawford, 5, and Kristine Jo Ann, 11 months. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Fannie Morris, of Corpus Christi, Tex., three sisters and two brothers. The body will lie in state at the Bustard Funeral Home through Wednesday evening and will be forwarded Thursday to Valley City, N. D. for funeral services and interment. on October 19, 1960.5

Nugen, 77, Coal City, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Fayette County, June 18, 1881, the son of the late James and Margaret Elizabeth Nugen. A resident of Raleigh Counly for the past 51 years, he was a farmer and merchant. As one of Coal Cily's first merchants, he operated a store for 25 years. He was one of the founders of the Missionary Baptist Church of Coal City, of which he was an active member until ill health forced him to curtail his activities. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Roxanna Bower Nugen; five daughters, Mrs. W. M. Boothe, Beckley; Mrs. D. B. Peters, Coal City; Mrs. J. W. Cooper, Hurricane; Mrs. Clabe DeHart, Coal City; Mrs. A. L. Keaton, Arlington, Va; three sisters, Mrs. Lola Light, Mrs. Minnie Richards, and Mrs. Bertha Davis, all of Fayetteville; and two brothers, John and James Nugen, both of Fayetteville. Nineteen grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild also survives. The body will remain at the Calfee Funeral Home until 1 p.m. Sunday when it will be taken to the residence. services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Coal City Community Church with the Rev. Everett R. Shafer in charge. Burial will be made in the Bower cemetery at Coal City. Pallbearers will be Lloyd Cooper, Carl Cooper, Ezra Cooper, Charles DeHart, Robert DeHart, John Boothe, Jimmy Boothe, William Boothe, Carles Keaton and Charlton Keaton. on July 6, 1958.3

Pruett of Fredericksburg, Va; a brother, Haskell Riffe of Lester; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Fleshman of Ridgecrest, Calif, Miss Louise Riffe of China Lake, Calif; a stepmother, Mrs. Pearl Riffe of Lester; eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Crab Orchard Baptist Church with Revs. Bill Withers and Shirley Donnelly officiating. The body will be take to the church one hour prior to the services. Friends may call at the Calfee Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. today. Burial will be at the Calfee Cemetery at Mount Tabor. Pallbearers include Sherman Trail, Samuel Meadows, Dallas Lilly, Glen Shumate, Perry O'Neal, Joe Shelor, Bill Coughlin and Mason Anderson. on June 17, 1974.6

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Walker-Brown Chapel with Tom Riffe officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker-Brown Funeral Home. Philip was born October 8, 1926 in Lester, WV to Haskell Othello and Beatrice (Richmond) Riffe. On October 3, 1946 he married Paige Turner in Hernando, MS. Philip served his country during WWII in the US Army where he received the WWII Victory Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. After the service he attended West Virginia University receiving a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1950. Shortly after graduation he began his career with American Cyanamid and retired in 1986 after 35 years of dedicated service. Philip and Paige moved to Apopka, FL where he enjoyed spending his time on the golf course. In January of 2006 they moved to Bartlesville so they could be closer to family. He was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Philip is survived by his wife Paige and two sons; Tom and wife Maria Riffe of Bexley, OH, Wade Turner and wife Cindy of Bartlesville. One brother, Robert Riffe of Virginia, sister Betty and husband Glen Daniel of Lester, WV, seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Philip was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Jane and brother Noel "Babe" Riffe. on August 25, 2009.2

She was 87 years of age. Mrs. Daniel was born at Lester, W.Va., near the Riffe Homeplace on April 25, 1928. Betty's paternal grandparents were Wade Hampton Riffe and Mary Cole Riffe and her maternal grandparents were Calvin H. Richmond and Nora Garten Richmond. She was a favorite niece of Judge Winton Riffe. Her parents were the late Beatrice Norma Richmond Riffe and Haskell Othello Riffe. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Glen Patton Daniel, who died April 19, 2010. Betty and Glen met at Trap Hill High School in 1943. They were married August 16, 1947, in her parents' home overlooking their garden where the Rose of Sharon was blooming. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Betty Susanne Boyce and husband Lourn M. Boyce Jr. of Lester and Mary Louise Hansberry and husband Thomas J. Hansberry Jr. of Bridgeport, W.Va. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Philip Thomas Riffe Sr., Robert Louis Riffe Sr., and Noel "Babe" Riffe. Brothers-in-law Lewis Gratton Daniel and Quentin Sidney Daniel also preceded her in death; as well as sisters-in-law Ida Virginia Hampton Riffe, Paige Turner Riffe, Jean Lillian Shrewsbury Riffe, and Genevieve Smith. Surviving her are sisters-in-law Lou Riffe Gates, Othello Massey and Ann Daniel, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. A dear aunt and uncle respectively, Nadine Richmond Wade Dingess and Rev. Quentin Richmond, survive her. Her four grandchildren are Lourn Maxwell Boyce III and his wife Cynthia Dawn Miller Boyce of Pineville; Benjamin Glen Daniel Boyce and his wife Melissa Ann Honaker Boyce of Lester; Matthew Bryan Hansberry and Megan Elaine Hansberry of Bridgeport. Her 10 great-grandchildren are Jacob Maxwell Boyce, Jorgianna Mycaela Boyce, Ashley Cailyn Boyce, Kelsey Allison Boyce, Bowdy Caleb Daniel Boyce, Kylee Paige Boyce, Tansi Elisabette Boyce, Madison Lynn Hansberry, Emma Kate Hansberry, and Grace Elizabeth Hansberry. She has one great-great-grandchild, Aubrey Madison Lester. Betty graduated from Trap Hill High School in 1947. She was a member of the Girl Scouts growing up and was an accomplished seamstress. Throughout her life she wrote about daily life and dreams in diaries and journals. She played the piano as well and her favorite piece was "On the Jericho Road." She attended Concord College. Mrs. Daniel graduated with a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from Morris Harvey College. She retired from Raleigh County School after 30 years of teaching. During this time she taught at Hotchkiss School and Blackberry School, which were both one-room schools with grades one through nine. She also taught at Mark Twain School and Lester Elementary School and Lester Junior High School. She was actively involved with the 4-H Club as a leader. Betty Lou Riffe Daniel loved God and taught her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild to trust in God. She believed in the importance of God and family. She was always so kind, patient and caring. Betty lovingly cared for her husband Glen through an extensive illness. Thanks to her special friends Brenda, Kay, and Mildred; she loved you. She loved to sing and whistle while she worked around the house or played with the children. Everyone will remember her wonderful laugh. "Actions speak louder than words" and "the truth will set you free" were her favorite sayings. Mrs. Daniel was a member of the West Virginia Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Deborah Rebecca Lodge. She was also a member of Lester Church of God and attended First Assembly of God Church. Pallbearers will be Lourn M. Boyce Jr.,Thomas J. Hansberry Jr., L. Maxwell Boyce III, Benjamin G.D. Boyce, Matthew B. Hansberry, Jacob M. Boyce, and Bowdy C. D. Boyce. Visitation will be Sunday, June 7, 2015, at Melton's Mortuary for family 10 to 11 a.m. Friends can visit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Family will gather at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum #3 at 2 p.m., where she will be laid to rest. Rev. Dewy Lowe will preside. on June 6, 2015.3

Riffe, 84 of Locust Grove, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 26th, of heart failure. Bob is survived by his wife Jean of 62 years; his sons Robert (Pam), Richmond, Va., Brian (Pam), Fairfax Station, Va; Timothy (Robin), Lake of the Woods, Va. and Steven, Jeannette, Pa; 12 grandchildren: Rene', Matthew, Karen, Daniel, Erin, Richard, Michelle, Christopher, Steven, Sean, Samuel, and Cole and three great grandchildren, Lennox, Gabriel and Norah. He was preceded in death by his brothers Phillip and Noel "Babe" and is survived by his sister Betty Lou Daniel. Lester, W.Va. Robert was the son of Haskell O. Riffe and Beatrice (Richmond) Riffe of Lester, W.Va., near Beckley. Bob attended Beckley College on a basketball scholarship. After marriage in 1951, Bob served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon return to the United States, Bob worked first as an Electronics Technician at Melpar and later at the Night Vision Laboratories, Department of the Army at Ft. Belvoir, Va., retiring in 1993. A 44-year member of Occoquan Lodge No. 310, AF&AM, a member of Edward H. Cann Lodge No. 1752, AF&AM and served as Worshipful Master of both Lodges. Bob also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star (OES). He was a member of Occoquan Chapter No. 59 Woodbridge, Va. for 43 years where he served six times as Worthy Patron. He also belonged to Fredericksburg Chapter No. 29. Bob served in various committee positions of the Grand Chapter (State of Virginia) of the OES. Bob was frequently sought after for initiations, funerals, and other Eastern Star and Masonic occasions. Bob was active in St. Paul's United Methodist in Woodbridge, after moving to Lake of the Woods, he joined The Lake of the Woods Church where he served as a Stephen's Minister for several years. Bob was a great father and role model for his four children. Known as "Poppy" to his 12 grandchildren. Daniel Riffe posted the following:. "Poppy you were an inspiration, a role model and amazing grandfather! Your kind heart and gentle nature will be remembered and passed along through your beautiful wife, children and grandchildren. You have made an amazing family and we will miss you deeply but your life, your laugh and your love will live on through each and every one of us! Heaven is lucky to have such an amazing angel, I know you'll be watching over us!" A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2013, at Lake of the Woods Church, Locust Grove, with a Masonic and Eastern Star Service to be held at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 4 at the church. Reverend Mike Lemay will officiate. Interment to follow at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, Va. on October 1, 2013.5

Mrs. Egnor was born at Lester, Sept. 13, 1889, a daughter of the late Oliver P. and Ruhama Davis Riffe. She was married to Robert C. Egnor, Aug. 8, 1953 (actually April 1, 1908). Mrs. Egnor had been a lifelong resident of Raleigh County and a member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church for approximately 60 years. Mrs. Egnor was also a member of Circle No. 5 and served as a deaconess of the church. Mrs. Egnor was co-owner of R. C. Egnor Monument Co., at Crab Orchard. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Alden (Edna) Deck of Crab Orchard; one son, Russell Egnor, of Alexandria, Va; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Duffy, Virgel and Walton Riffe, all of Crab Orchard, and Cecil Riffe of Richmond, Va; four sisters, Mrs. Lakie Fink, Mrs. Macie Snuffer, Mrs. Mabel Gunter and Mrs. Hattie Shrewsberry, all of Crab Orchard. The body is at Melton Mortuary, where friends may call after 4 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at the Crab Orchard Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday by Dr. C. S. Donnelly. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before services. Pallbearers will be Basil Wilcox, Clyde Fitzpatrick, Howard Hunt, Gilmer Hughes, Russell Bonds, Cecil Edmonds, Harvey Clay and Charles Lively. The Fellowship Class and the choir of the church will serve as flowerbearers. on May 21, 1965.2

The body is at the Calfee Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
