As his brother says, he might have been a country boy, but nothing was ever too high to climb. He so loved West Virginia. He was set to come here to visit on May 9. He was preceded in death by his parents, James H. and Luearl Petry Macleery; brother, James H. Macleery II; sisters, Pauline Macleery Toney and Carol Macleery Gollihugh; wife, Gladys Carolyn O'Dell Macleery; and son, Robert Lee Macleery. Harry is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Russ and Trish English; and son, Larry Macleery. He had two grandsons, Michael Middleton and Nathan Macleery; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Shirley Macleery; and many nieces and nephews. He also had two great-granddaughters, Hannah Middleton and Jordan Macleery. He loved watching baseball and football and, of course, going to the casinos, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and especially seeing and doing fun thing with his granddaughter, Hannah, his pride and joy. She is 8.
on May 10, 2009.3

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the residence at Clay by the Rev. M. E. Burns. Burial will be in Reed cemetery at Procious. The body will be removed from the Clay Funeral Home at Clay to the residence at 10 a.m. Wednesday. on May 28, 1952.5

Burial will be in Woody Cemetery at Bomont. on May 14, 1955.3

     His Social Security Number was 234-01-1070.6 Amos Monroe Samples was buried at Kirkland Memorial Gardens, Point Pleasant, Mason Co., West Virginia.5,7 He was born on July 24, 1897 at Twistabout Ridge, Clay Co., West Virginia.1,3,6,5,7,4 He married Vanna Belle "Vannie" Paxton on May 26, 1918 at Clay Co., West Virginia.8,9 Amos Monroe Samples died on November 29, 1971 at Gallipolis, Gallia Co., Ohio, at age 74.5,7,10 He Amon [sic] Samples Dies Monday. Amon (Dick) Samples, 74, a native of Clay and more recently residing in Mason, died Monday at 11:45 p.m. in Holzer Medical Center. He once lived at Cedar Grove and Cross Lanes. Mr. Samples was a boiler engineer and was a charter member of the Mason First Baptist Church. He was born July 24, 1897, in Clay County, a son of John [sic] and Alice Samples. Survivors include the widow, Vanna Samples; two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Stephens, Fayetteville, N. C., and Mrs. Betty Pauley, Mason; sons Harold Samples, Cross Lanes, and Frank Samples, Nitro; 12 grandchildren and 10 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. from First Baptist Church at Mason with the Rev. Harold Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the Samm's [sic] Cemetery, Clay County.

Note: His name was Amos Monroe "Dick" Samples, son of Abner Jehu Samples. He was originally buried in the Sams Cemetery in Clay Co. but was later moved to Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Mason Co. on December 1, 1971.5
