At a young age, she moved with her parents to Des Moine, Iowa, where she graduated high school and worked at her parents’ restaurant. Charlotte relocated to California in her early 20s where she lived in Orange County and Riverside for 20 years before selling everything and traveling the United States by motorhome with her husband, Charlie Lucas. After traveling for a few years, Charlie and Charlotte, or “Charlie and Charlie” as their friends referred to them, planted their roots as hosts at Hurkey Creek campground near Idyllwild. A couple years after the passing of her husband in 2014, Charlotte moved to Menifee to be closer to her son and his family. Charlotte was an animal and nature lover, and was in her happy place when she was able to enjoy the outdoors with her little dog and a cold beverage. Charlotte was a wonderful human being who touched many lives through her travels and decades as a host at Hurkey Creek. Born Feb. 25, 1920, in Thorpe, he was the son of the late David Hawks and Flora Stone Hawks Combs. Mr. Hawks entered the U.S. Navy to serve during World War II. While in the service, he was aboard the USS Franklin Aircraft carrier. He was awarded the good conduct medal and several other ribbons and medals. For over 40 years, Mr. Hawks was employed by the U.S. Steel Corporation, having worked at the power plant and retiring from the cleaning plant. He was a member of the UMWA Local 7135 at Gary. Mr. Hawks was a devoted Christian, a faithful and hard working member of the New Covenant Pentecostal Holiness Church on Highland Avenue in Princeton. He was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class, director of audio, served as choir director for many years as well as being a deacon for many years. His knowledge of audio and video equipment allowed him to serve many families by videoing weddings, anniversaries, funerals and other special occasions. He was preceded in death by a half brother, Ray Hawks. Left to cherish his memory, his loving and caring wife of 56 years, Margie Elizabeth Furrow Hawks; his four children, Edward C. Hawks Jr. and wife, Sharon of Lakeland, Fla., Jim Hawks and wife, Donna, Jerry Hawks and wife, Kathy and Dana Anderson and husband, John all of Princeton; nine grandchildren, Emily Baches, Brian, Justin, Rusty, Jody, Kayla, Jacob Daniel Hawks, Kia Hebb and Micah Musick; two great-grandchildren, Rachael Elizabeth and Rebekah Baches; sister, Virginia Spangler of Waynesboro, Va; half sister, Ethel Fitzgerald of Waynesboro; brothers, Albert Hawks and David Hawks both of Gary, and Daniel Bob Hawks of Waynesboro. Those left to cherish her memory, her two daughters, Sandra Kay Sparks of the home, Darlene Henderson and husband, Mark of Indian Valley, Va; grandchildren, Melvin "Skip" Dalton, Brandon L. He retired from Eastern Gas & Fuel, Keystone #1 Mines with 30 years of service. Buster was a member of the UMWA. Buster was an active member of New Convent Pentecostal Holiness Church on Highland Avenue in Princeton where he had served as a Deacon, helped to build the church and enjoyed doing handy work around the church. For many years, Buster was an avid woodworker. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Pearl, Paskel and Tommy. Survivors include his loving and caring wife of 65 years, Dorothy Furrow Sparks; two daughters, Sandra Kay Sparks of the home, Marie Darlene Sparks of Indian Valley, Va; three grandchildren, Melvin D. "Skip" Dalton, Brandon Lee Dalton, Windy Michelle Dalton; two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Jeffrey; one sister, Doris Juanita Froy of Michigan; half sister, Betty Harman of Virginia. A service of celebration will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from the New Convent Pentecostal Holiness Church on Highland Avenue in Princeton with Pastors Ronnie Reeves and Paul Furrow officiating. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. A time of sharing with the family will be held Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, great-grandsons, Benny Furches and Bill Carrico. The Sparks family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory & Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton. on April 23, 2010.3

     Ruth Furrow Ruth Furrow Atkinson, 87, of Lerona went to meet her Lord and Savior Wednesday night, February 7, 2018 at her home with her loving family at her side. Ruth was a graduate of Gary High School and a lifelong member of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith. She will be remembered for being a devoted pastors wife and loving mother. Born September 10, 1930 at Gary, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Jessie Louis Furrow Sr. and Stella Irene Wiggins-Furrow. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six siblings; Agnes Furrow-Huff, Marjorie "Margie" Elizabeth Furrow-Hawks, Jessie Louis "J.L." Furrow Jr., Dorothy Marie Furrow-Sparks, Gertrude Furrow, and Rev. Ray Furrow. Those left to cherish her memory, her faithful and loving husband of 64 years, Rev. Thomas Edward "Tom" Atkinson Sr; a son, Thomas Edward Atkinson Jr. & wife B.J. Atkinson; three grandchildren, Tripp Atkinson, Gabriel Atkinson, and Caroline Atkinson; five siblings, Rev. William Toby Furrow, Velma Lorraine Furrow-Wallace-Gilliam & husband Robert "Bobby" Gilliam, Malcolm Selvy Furrow & wife Dorothy Furrow, Clifton Furrow & wife Shirley Furrow, Rev.      Rev. Thomas Edward Atkinson Reverend Thomas E. Atkinson, 91, of Moonglow Drive, Lerona went to meet his Lord and Savior Friday evening, May 10, 2019 at his home. Born December 22, 1927 at McColl, SC, he was the son of the late Shepherd Ross Atkinson & Sarah Jane Henderson Atkinson. Tom was a veteran of World Warr II serving with the U.S. Army, he was awarded the WW II Victory Medal and the Occupation Medal (ETO). Tom had been affiliated with the Pentecostal Holiness Church his entire life, having been an ordained Minister of the Pentecostal Holiness faith for more than 47 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Ruth Furrow Atkinson, along with five siblings; Richard, Bussie, Bobby, Dorothy and Eloise Atkinson. Those left to cherish his memory, his son Thomas E. “Tommy” Atkinson Jr. & wife Betty Jean, three grandchildren: Tripp, Gabriel & Caroline. Four siblings Milton, K.D. & Charles Atkinson, Sue Mullins. A host of nieces and nephews.
