In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ettie Nunn Bowman; a step-son, Delmo Lynch; and step-grandson, Noel Chilton; four brothers, Early, Hoover, Claude and Otis Bowman; and three sisters, Myrtle Bowman, Margaret Bowman and Effie Reavis. Mr. Bowman had served in the United States Army during World War II, and was a member of Korners Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Flat Rock. Mr. Bowman is survived by his second wife, Opal Lynch Bowman of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruby and Herbert Hill of Claudville and Mary Ellen and Don Corn of Ararat; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mack and Shirley Bowman of Stuart, Alvin and Chong Bowman of Hopewell; a step-daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Larry Chilton of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, a step-son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Vicky Lynch of Pilot Mountain; a step daughter-in-law, Libby Lynch of Pilot Mountain; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 7 step-grandchildren; 18 step-great-grandchildren; 6 step-great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jack Bowman of Mount Airy, Roscoe Bowman of Mount Airy and Donald Bowman of Pulaski; three sisters-in-law, Mattie Bowman of Stuart, Barbara Gwynn of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Myra Mill of Stuart; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Bowman will be held Friday, October 28, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Red Bank Primitive Baptist Church with Elder J.H. Keaton and Elder Lacey Gates officiating. Freddie was a career coal miner at Crumpler, and possessed a great passion for motorcycles. He follows his mother Margaret, father Pelby, and brother Larry to a peaceful resting place. He is survived by: Two sisters, Sharon Brooks, husband Chip and daughter Nicole of Route 2, Rock, Polly Blevins, husband James and daughter Jamie of Route 3, Bluefield; one brother, Randall 'Jake' Poff, wife Betty and sons Randall, Jeff, and David of Reece Harmon Ridge Road, Rock; sons, Doug Poff and Michael Poff of Bluefield; many great-nieces and nephews. A funeral service honoring Freddie will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Minister Jack Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the Bailey Cemetery on Browning Lambert Mountain where Roger Blevins, Louis Hall, and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call today from noon-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
