     Verna Asbury was buried at Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg, Giles Co., Virginia.1,3 Her married name was Light.4 She married Roscoe Wade Light, son of William Herman Light and Blanche Millicent Board.1 Verna Asbury was born on February 26, 1917 at Tazewell Co., Virginia.2 She died on March 17, 2015 at Rich Creek, Giles Co., Virginia, at age 98.1 She Verna Asbury Brewster Light, 98, of Narrows, departed this life on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Heritage Hall Rich Creek into the arms of her Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus and to join her earthly parents, Daniel Crouse Asbury and Liza Jane Beavers Asbury; and her sisters Alice, Elsie, Della, Margie, Ada, Clair and Sallie. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, John E. Brewster and Roscoe W. Light. Ms. Light was a member of the New Valley Fellowship in Narrows. She is survived by her daughters ,Flois (James) Evans, of Pearisburg, Va. and Melva (Fred) Wendehack, of Lake of the Woods, Va; grandson, James (Katheryn Derr) Evans, of Colorado Springs, Colo; granddaughters, Vera (Tim) Epling, of Pearisburg, Robyn Boothe, of Myrtle Beach, S.C; great-grandsons, Kaleb and Jarid Soldz; great-granddaughters, Illianna Derr Evans and Amelia Epling; step-sons Leon (Cindy) Light and Richard Light, of Narrows; step-grandson, Jonathan Light; step-granddaughters, Susan (Ronnie) Bland and step great-grandson, Wade Bland; step granddaughters, Lyn (Jerry) Kuzminsky, Carol (Kevin) Mahoney; step great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael and Joe Kuzminsky and Julia Mahoney; many special friends, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at noon, Saturday, March 21, 2015 in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow Street, Pembroke with Pastor Kevin Weaver and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours before the services. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made in Verna'a name to her church, New Valley Fellowship in Narrows, The American Heart Association or the charity of choice. on March 20, 2015.1

Leon was born on September 9, 1947, in Narrows, Va., and was a son of the late Roscoe Wade Light and Myra Mae Robertson Light. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Rosetta S. Light; his stepmother, Verna B. Light; father-in-law and mother-in-law, W.E. "Corky" and Leona Martin and stepsister and her husband, Melva and Fred Wendehack. Leon was a 1965 graduate of Narrows High School and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran from 1966 to 1972. He received two Associate Degrees from New River Community College and later became co-owner of R.W. Light and Sons in Narrows. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Narrows, a past member of the Narrows Jaycees, and past president of the Narrows Lions Club. He was a current member of the American Legion Post #68, the Narrows Planning Commission, was a former member of the New River Valley Planning District Commission, the Progress In Narrows Now and the Narrows Business and Professional Association. This past year, the Narrows 4th of July 70th Annual Celebration was dedicated to Leon and his wife Cindy. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cindy M. Light of Narrows; one son, Jonathan M. Light (Emily C. Hawkins) of Narrows; one brother, Richard W. Light of Narrows; niece, Susan E. Bland (Ronnie) of Blacksburg and their son, Wade Bland of Blacksburg; stepsister, Flo Evans (Jim) of Pearisburg and their children, Vera Epling (Tim) of Pearisburg and Jim Evans (Katherine) of Albuquerque, N.M. and their families, Illianna Hamons and Robin Boothe and his beloved grand-dog, "Oreo". Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Narrows with Pastor Jim McDaniel and Charles Henderson officiating with burial following in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. on January 8, 2022.4
