Mears Herring was born May 22, 1931, in Portales, to Jessie Lee Mears and Vera O. Durham Mears. She moved to Carlsbad at an early age. She graduated from Carlsbad High School and attended business college. She married Art Herring, a baseball player, on June 15, 1955, in Roswell. They lived in Albuquerque for 10 years, where she worked for a textiles company. In 1966, she returned to Carlsbad and worked for her parents as a waitress at Cortez Restaurant. She worked there for 27 years before retiring in 1993. Mrs. Herring enjoyed fishing and metal detecting. She was preceded in death by her father in 1973; brother, Kenneth Wayne Mears; and a daughter, Carla Salter on July 5, 2000. Survivors include her husband of Carlsbad; son, Mike Herring of Carlsbad; mother Vera Hernandez of Carlsbad; brother, Eldon Mears of Albuquerque; sister, Yvette Jean Scott of Albuquerque; and five grandchildren. on April 17, 2001.²

     Leslie Earl Gilreath Sr. was buried at Gilliam Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Arab, Marshall Co., Alabama.^3,4 He Leslie Earl Gilreath, Sr. age 81 of Arab passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Diversicare of Arab. He was born December 30, 1936 in Oklahoma the son of L. E. Gilreath and Ruth Grego Gilreath. Mr. Gilreath was retired from the Redstone Arsenal. He also served in the US Airforce and attended Destiny Church. He is survived by his Wife: Alma Gilreath of Arab, Daughter & Son-in-law: Lynn & Randy Brown of Arab; Son & Daughter-in-law: Les & Teresa Gilreath of Arab; Grandchildren: Chad (Crystal) Gilreath, John Luke (Hannah) Gilreath, Jessica Gilreath, Stephanie Brown & Michael Brown; Great Grandchildren: Elliott Gilreath & Dylan Gilreath. James, husband, father, and grandfather aged 82, of Walker Twp., died Saturday, November 2, 2013, at Hometown Nursing & Rehabilitation Ctr. in Tamaqua. Survived by his wife of 59 years, Katie B. (Herring) James. A 1950 Tamaqua High School graduate, and career United States Air Force Veteran, retiring in 1972 as a Master Sgt. having served 21 years. Paul was a Silver Star recipient. Paul, graduated Summa Cum Laude from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1980. Upon retirement he and his family moved back to Tamaqua where he worked for the former P&B Sporting Goods of Tamaqua. Paul maintained memberships in, the Association of Retired Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal Personnel, Air Force Sergeants Association, Disabled Amercian Veteran Association, and was a associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police. On any given day he and Kate could be found enjoying their group of friends who gathered at the Tamaqua Burger King. Born in Pottsville, he was the son of the late Charles O. James 2nd, and Helen (Wentz) James. Also survived by; Two Sons, Keith R. James and his wife LeeAnn, Paul C. James, Jr., both of Tamaqua; Brother, William R. James of Lewisburg, Pa; Three grandchildren, Keith R., William Paul, and Eric Charles James; Preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Pauline Herring, and a great grandchild.      Debra Joann Laughery Debra Joann Ward was born on September 29, 1959 in Akron, OH to the late Iva Herring Laughery and Richard Laughery. She passed from this life on April 12, 2021 at the age of 61. She made a career as a medical transcriptionist and loved to sew in her spare time. Debra is survived by her husband of 38 years, David Ward of Nunnelly, TN; daughters, Samantha Chula of Akron, OH and Elizabeth Myatt of Dickson, TN; son, Timothy Ward of Dickson, TN; sister, Kathy Laughery; and brothers, Richard Laughery and Robert Laughery; as well as fifteen grandchildren.⁴ She was born on September 29, 1959 at Akron, Summit Co., Ohio.⁴ As of March 10, 1984,her married name was Ward.⁵ She married David Eugene "Dave" Ward on March 10, 1984 at Summit Co., Ohio.^1,5,4 Debra Joann Laughery died on April 12, 2021 at Ohio at age 61.⁴
